This Sunday the Library at Hawkshead Grammar School will be open as part of the Heritage Open Day scheme. The library was started in the 1660's by Daniel Rawlinson, a local man living in London. He got a number of his influential friends to donate books. Through the 1700's whem Wordsworth was at the school and 1800's to library grew and for a subscription locals and publishers go borrow books and use the library. Today there are getting on for 1800 books and a massive project is underway to catalogue them, repair and conserve them. Sunday is and excellent opportunity to view them still in situ and look at the work that's going on
