Our last visitors are in the cottages as we are about to hand them over to their new owners in the next week or so.

I just want to say thank you all very much for all your custom over the years, you have been a great bunch of people.

The cottages will still be let but in a bit of a different format from how we ran them.

Thanks again and happy holidaying in Tiree.

How to spot a rip this World Drowning Prevention Day 🤔💭

Rips are strong currents running out to sea which can quickly drag you out of your depth. Sometimes they reach speeds faster than an Olympic swimmer, so it might not be a surprise that they’re a major cause of accidental drowning on beaches worldwide.

They can be difficult to spot, so Dr Rob Brander used dye to help show us what they look like. Please share.

If you can: always choose a lifeguarded beach, swim between the yellow and red flags, and take advice from the lifeguards to help you identify and avoid rips.

To break the grip of a rip: don’t try to swim against it or you’ll get exhausted | If you can stand, wade don’t swim | If you can, swim parallel to the shore until free of the rip and then head for shore | Raise your hand, shout for help.

If you see anyone else in trouble, alert the lifeguards or call 999 Coastguard.

With the beaches getting busier the team carried out some incident prevention patrols, giving out water safty advice to members of the public.

🏖 Make sure you have checked the tide and weather conditions before you set out.
🏖 If you are using inflatables ensure that they are fit for the ocean and have all necessary equipment to keep yourself safe.
🏖 Always wear a life jacket or buoyancy aid
🏖 Check the wind direction inflatables are very easily blown away from the beach quickly especially in an offshore wind.
🏖 Ensure you are beach ready with sunscreen, water and anything else that will help protect you in the heat.

If you see someone in difficulty at the coast ☎️ 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask for Coastgaurd 🌊 🆘 🚨
