Our Story
HOLESTONE MOOR BARNS 5 STAR GOLD LUXURY HOLIDAY COTTAGES·TUESDAY, 18 FEBRUARY 2020·

Maxine and Matt Allman took over running the holiday cottages in July 2013, updating and growing the business over the next several years. Prior to that it was owned by Vicki & Steve Clemerson, who bought Holestone Moor Barns in 1998, converting the almost derelict barns into holiday cottages in just 8 m

onths (not by themselves .. they had builders in!). The cottages opened at the end of 1999, in time for Millenium celebrations. The business thrived and after 15 years, they decided to sell up and retire. Maxine, Matt, Vicki & Steve developed a strong friendship. Sadly, in October 2019, Maxine died after a 16 month battle with cancer. She was just a few days away from her 50th birthday. Holestone Moor Barns Holiday Cottages are luxurious conversions from two 200 year old stone farm buildings standing adjacent to the original old farm house, Holestone Moor Farm, where Matt lives. Together, Maxine and Matt strived to always keep the holiday cottages and surroundings updated, and Matt will continue (as Maxine would have wanted) .. continually redecorating, replacing and upgrading, both inside and out, in an effort to provide a luxurious 'home from home'. Standards are high and for several years now they have been graded at 5* Gold by Quality in Tourism, with 100% for cleanliness, thanks to the wonderful housekeepers. Judging by the comments in the visitors' books, and the number of guests who return, the hard work is working! Matt is very much looking forward to welcoming old and new friends to Derbyshire, and in particular to Holestone Moor Barns self catering holiday cottages, in the Derbyshire Dales, just 5 minutes drive from the Peak District National Park, Matlock Bath and Matlock. Matt will usually be waiting to welcome you when you arrive – no key under the mat or a cold dark house! As you read a couple of paragraphs earlier, he lives on site and you will benefit from his local knowledge to make the very best of your stay in Derbyshire. On arrival you will receive a welcome gift of freshly baked cake/s, eggs from our very own hens, tea, coffee & sugar and milk for that all important cup of tea before you unpack. Our luxurious 200 year old barn & stable conversions boast all the modern amenities you need for a fabulous self catering break, while still retaining the quaint country charm associated with the rural farmland surroundings 🌳🐮
When hired together, the barn & stables combined, known as the steadings, sleeps 13 - 15 people so you can totally take us over and have exclusive use of all of our facilities including our games room 🎯
We have an extremely large dining area suitable for hosting parties, gatherings & even Christmas dinner🎄
There is plenty to do on site and off for guests of all ages, including walks, local attractions and of course pubs & restaurants nearby (check out highlight ‘Eats & Drinks) 🍻
Being 1000m above sea level, we get the benefit of having some beautiful weather & views, if you get a clear night you may even spot some shooting stars 💫

Coming to visit us soon? Thinking of booking but not sure what there is to do in the local area? We’ve tried and tested some of the local bars, pubs & restaurants so you don’t have to! (Well, you probably should anyway 🥂…)
📍 , pictures 1-3, local modern pub within 5 mins drive / 30 mins walk from the barns, great menu with lots of options to suit everyone, very well stocked bar with seasonal cocktails, the light bites are a must try!🌟 9/10
📍 , picture 4, lively music bar in central Matlock where you can often find live music and events happening at weekends, there is a food menu however we haven’t sampled this just yet, a little on the pricier side but worth it for the atmosphere! ⭐️ 7/10
📍 , pictures 5-6, posh pub in central Matlock serving delicious pizzas, light lunches & tapas, with an extensive drinks menu this place is a must visit! ⭐️ 8/10
📍 , picture 7, one of our fave places to eat if we fancy something a little different! Delicious, authentic Thai food and huge portions, the mixed starter & set meal is definitely the way to go so you can have a little bit of everything. ⭐️ 9/10
📍 , pictures 8-9, no Matlock pub crawl is complete without a visit to the Tipsy Toad 🐸 Cosy venue, extensive drinks list, cocktail deals, music & sports, what’s not to love! ⭐️10/10
📍 Matlock Bath, picture 10, Matlock Bath has an abundance of cafes & fish & chip shops along the main drag. Our favourite is Charlie’s but they are all delicious, who doesn’t love fish & chips, ⭐️ 8/10
