Lower Hearson Farm Self Catering Holiday Cottages Lower Hearson Farm is a small family run farm set in fifteen acres of gardens, field and woodland.

We run the farm on a small scale aiming to be as self sufficient as possible in fruit, vegetables and meat. Depending on the time of year that you come here you will see life on a small farm with sheep, lambs and traditional breed chickens (Welsummer, Black Rock and Light Sussex). Guests are very welcome to help us at feeding times for the animals, help to collect the eggs and round up the chicke

ns when it is their bedtime. We are happy to share our experience with any visitors that are interested in living in as self sufficient a way as possible with tips ranging from looking after the animals to growing vegetables on a balcony (which is how we started). Tucked away in the heart of the North Devon countryside in a secluded valley full of wildlife, Lower Hearson Farm is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Our six self catering holiday cottages are surrounded by two acres of gardens making this a safe place for children and a peaceful haven for adults.

Well...that year just flew by and here we are about to welcome 2025.

According to our booking system we welcomed over 650 guests to Lower Hearson in 2024 and we loved meeting each and every one of you 😍 I know I've said it before but this special corner of North Devon is meant to be shared and we can't wait to welcome you for a first visit or a repeat visit in 2025.

As always there are ups and downs, especially when you have animals. This year we had to say goodbye to some of our lovely chickens - Millie, Florence, Blossom, Rose, Hazel and Primrose 😢 However, we also got to say hello to Curly Wurly the sheep as he became a permanent paddock resident as well as our 8 retired commercial hens.

I hope you enjoy these photos from 2024 at Lower Hearson as we send our best wishes to you all for 2025.

We are very glad to see the back of . Luck was definitely on our side yesterday...our lovely big eucalyptus tree came down but just missed the swimming pool fencing.

The best bit of luck was with the chickens, as a large section of tree landed on their run before being blown off and hitting the floor (and yes, those are our electric cables under the branches in the photo). Very impressed with and grateful for the strength of the Omlet - Remarkable Pet Products run which didn't buckle and kept them safe and for the visit and advice from National Grid this morning.

I was taken by surprise by today's beautiful weather... some glorious views from Codden Hill followed by a beautiful evening sky. It might be easier than ever to travel the world but there's really no place I'd rather be 😊

The final stop for the morning animal feed are the sheep. Guests can meet the ever popular Curly Wurly and hand feed some of the ewes.

You can also try and grab some nice photos....hopefully you'll have more luck capturing good sheep selfies than we do! 🐑🤣🐑

Second stop on our animal feeding sessions are the Kunekune pigs.

Mealtimes are Willow and Pickle's favourite parts of the day. They aren't the tidiest of eaters and usually end up wearing a fair amount of breakfast 😅

I know for lots of our guests it's the time with the animals that's the highlight of their trip. The animal feed sessions are really popular and we always start with a visit to the hens.

Those of you who've met them won't be surprised to see Elsa and Florence hiding at the back of this photo.

☀️The perfect spot to cool down on a hot day☀️

It's not just about cooling down though, it's also a space to enjoy some family time and make memories. I loved hearing about one of our younger guests successfully swimming by herself for the first time....and even better... her mum and dad were able to share in her excitement and success - a very special moment for them all 🥰

We are so proud that Lower Hearson is a special place to so many people - whether it's been for first swims, first holidays, first birthdays or just some time with your favourite people in the world.

Ducklings first day

I found a little bit of time to watch the activity on our bird feeders this afternoon. In just a couple of minutes there were Blue Tits, Great Tits, Coal Tits, Chaffinch, Siskins, Robin, Sparrows, Goldfinch and either a Marsh Tit or Willow Tit. Remember to pack your binoculars 😀

Tucked away in the heart of the North Devon countryside in a secluded valley full of wildlife, Lower Hearson Farm is perfect for a relaxing holiday. Our six self catering holiday cottages are surrounded by two acres of gardens making this a safe place for children and a peaceful haven for adults. Well behaved dogs are also welcome. As this is a working farm with livestock dogs must be kept under control at all times.
