MY WORK HELPS MY CLIENTS TO BE BRILLIANT //

As a result of the projects I do to measure and showcase impact, my clients are able to go on and brilliant things like this…

🌟 They raise more funds to sustain or expand their charity’s activity BECAUSE I’ve given them independent, robust evidence of their impact that funders trust.

🌟 They figure out where their blind spots are and improve the way they deliver their services to their clients BECAUSE their clients were too polite/ too nervous to tell them about the one thing they didn’t like BUT they do open up to me and I can share this feedback sensitively.

🌟 They stop wasting their time doing things that don’t deliver positive impact BECAUSE I’ve shown them how their clients really use their services and which things people don’t value or bother using.

🌟 They keep their existing customers happy for longer BECAUSE I’ve given them a clear way of demonstrating and articulating the positive impact they are delivering to their clients.

🌟 They win new business by attracting new clients BECAUSE I’ve given them highly persuasive evidence of their impact which makes selling their services easy.

💡I want to equip you with these things too.

THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE // ❤️

My first degree is in Politics and French. I chose it because I loved those subjects at A Level, and in the absence of any proper research (!), or any decent careers advice, I figured I’d also enjoy studying them at university.

I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to be when I grew up, so it made sense to just do what I knew.

So unsurprisingly, in the 22 years since graduating (GULP!!), I’ve not once had to call upon the content of that degree for my work.

UNTIL NOW…!!

I’m currently part of a project that’s carrying out some super interesting research in Paris. We’ve got a colleague in France conducting the majority of our fieldwork for us, but as we approach the delivery date for our report, the team needed to find someone who could translate a load of transcripts, sit in some focus groups as an observer and listen in to an interview with a potential delivery partner.

And in the absence of anyone truly fluent, they’ve got me!

I love France and I love trying to get by on holiday with a bit of casual conversation. But I haven’t really spoken PROPER French since graduating in 2001.

But it’s been so fabulous to discover that there’s knowledge buried in my brain that hasn’t disappeared, even though it’s not been called upon for over two decades.

I’ve just come off the last partner interview call, all conducted in French, and while I wasn’t able to say much beyond a few pleasantries, I’ve understood the entire discussion. Who knew my vocabulary would allow me to fully digest a debate about the needs of disadvantaged families in suburban Paris, the value of play in children’s lives, and the crucial role of the national network of toy libraries across France? It turns out that it does!

How fitting that on Valentine’s Day, therefore, I’ve rediscovered my love of languages?

What skills do you have that you’ve neglected but that have rescued you, unexpectedly?!
