The 1918 Representation of the People Act gave voting rights to women over the age of thirty who had £5 of property (just over £7k in todays money)or had husbands who did.
It added just over eight million women to the voting population and this is Christabel Pankhurst, daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst using her vote for the first time.

Excited to launch my new 'Belfast's Industrial Heritage - signs on the Street' walking tour for the great NI Science Festival. It will run on 16th & 21st Feb, 1-3pm, starting from City Hall, by the Queen Victoria statue. We’ll check out a range of links to past industries across the city. For example, have you spotted a number of metal cobbles in the Cathedral Quarter? This one (reversed) is for Stewart Hadski's iron foundry, and links also to our early printing history. 1st of February marks the Celtic Festival Imbolc meaning 'in the belly' and was the first day of Spring in the Celtic calendar traditionally coming midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It celebrates light and the start of Spring
and was originally associated with the pre christian goddess Brigid who was associated with healing, wisdom, poetry and protection. If Brigid says its Spring then its Spring!
