NATIONAL HIGHWAYS ISSUE WARNING TO MANCHESTER AIRPORT PASSENGERS

National Highways have warned passengers flying from Manchester Airport throughout June and July to leave extra time for travel, following an announcement that parts of the M56 will be closed on a number of dates for ‘important wear and tear work’.

The work will be taking place overnight, between 21:00 and 05:00 on weekdays and between 21:00 and 07:00 on weekends.

KEY CLOSURE DATES:

10th JUNE: Between Junction 5 at the Airport and Junction 6 at Hale Barns

11th -12th JUNE: Eastbound carriageway between Junction 6 and Junction 4 (diversions will be in place)

24th - 26th JUNE & 4th - 5th JULY: Eastbound road between Junction 7 and Junction 5

8th - 10th JULY: Eastbound carriageway between Junction 6 and Junction 4 (diversions will be in place).

National Highways are expecting the work to be ‘well out of the way’ before the beginning of the summer holidays, meaning most holiday makers will be unaffected by the closures. However for those travelling in June and July, all planned closure dates can be found here:

We will build an all-lane running motorway on the M56 between junctions 6 and 8. This will provide increased capacity in a cost-effective way, maximising the use of the existing road.
