Are you having a post-Christmas clear out of the soft toys? Too many teddies in at Christmas? The Lions are looking for good condition, new or pre-loved soft toys for our Toybola stall at the Family Fun Day on 26 May.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Santa's elves while they were out with the float this year. To give you an idea of some of the things we spend your donations on, in November and December this year we have
*donated the Christmas tree in Westbury Gardens
*given Sainsburys vouchers to families in need of a little help to make Christmas festive this year
*given baskets of bulbs to elderly people on their own who need a little extra colour in their Christmas
*given £200 to The Hub for the food parcels that they distribute via the schools in the town
*given Christmas-themed gift bags to people and businesses affected by the recent flooding. It's only a gesture, but we wanted to do something to show our support.
*made our Outstanding Young Person Awards - more in a separate post because they deserve all the attention! Each of them gets a cheque and a trophy.

Tomorrow - Tuesday - is our last time out with Santa and the float this year. It's our rescheduled visit to Holt, which had to be postponed due to the storms on the day originally planned. I worked out yesterday that just taking out the float, without any of the planning and preparation, is about 200 hours in total. That's not all Lions! We couldn't do it without the support of our amazing Friends - all of the drivers who tow the float around are Friends, and so are many of the elves who accompany the float. Big thanks to all of them for all that they do.

After the trip to Holt, Santa (without sleigh and reindeer) will be making one final visit to Bradford on Avon this year, for our annual Carols around the Christmas Tree in Westbury Gardens on Christmas Eve. Hoping for a dryer one this year, as half the song sheets disintegrated last year! Come and join us for Christmas Eve singing.

Each evening, there are around 9 people making Santa's trip possible. Can we have a round of applause please for our drivers? They are all Friends of the Lions, and each give up several evenings at this very busy time of year to drive very slowly and carefully around the streets, doing incredibly precise manoeuvres that make me very scared, keeping Santa safe and looking out for children coming to meet him. We're hugely grateful to our drivers, who come back year after year and do a fantastic job. Without them, Santa couldn't get out!

Yesterday we got a "thank you" that I wanted to share with people who have supported the Lions, so you can really see what a difference you make.

"Dear Bradford on Avon Lions, Thank you so much for the donation of £200 which we used for Christmas items for our Parcels ready for schools. Your donation will certainly spread a smile to many local families. Attached is the photo of Lynn, (who is also one of our volunteers as well as one of yours) and the goodies from the Tesco delivery that was ordered with the money. Many thanks as always for your continued support of the Hub. Hope the Lions Santa float goes well.

I was out with the float last night and it was lovely to see so many families coming out to see Santa - the rain held off and it was such a happy Christmassy evening! As well as bringing Santa round for the children, we also collect money in order to support the people and charities who ask us for help. In our other post today you'll see the thank you we received yesterday from The Hub, who used our support to buy supplies for Christmas food parcels. Both parts of what we do - fun for the community and help for the community - are why we do it.

**Tonight (Saturday) - Santa Float postponed

We're very sorry that due to safety concerns because of the weather we have taken the decision to postpone Santa's visit to Holt.

After careful discussion with the reindeer wrangler we've worked out when we can get Santa to Holt. New date - Tuesday 17 December!

We're very sorry to say that due to the weather forecast we've postponed Santa's trip to Holt this weekend. We'll let you know the new date as soon as we've worked it out, but it's a children's event and we just don't want to risk anyone's safety.
