About this time last year in extreme heat we planted some small apple and pear trees outside the front of the barn in the wild flower meadow….

This year in a very different wet July, the trees are oozing with fruit! I think I may have to support the branches in the windy weather. It’s a joy to watch this garden develop and grow in its first year.

It’s another glorious bank holiday weekend at Aston Eyre!

Outside the front of the barns the butterfly and bee garden is enjoying the sunshine. The cornflowers and poppies are exploding with colour and making the barns look rather gorgeous! Pippy the dog is enjoying the garden too, she does love to sit in the long grass to get some shade!

Phew!

What a busy Easter we had on the farm! With the farmhouse and barns full of guests and lambing on the farm we had such a lovely, if hectic time!

Today was all about preparing for the arrival of the next guests. It’s a joy to get the rooms looking beautiful and welcoming. One of my favourite bedrooms has to be this Kingsize bedroom in The Byre. With its deep windows set in the oldest part of the stone barn and it’s sumptuous Olive colour, it cocoons you making it the perfect place to rest…..

We have a new friend in the farm house. She is growing so fast!

Her name is Tara and she seems to be loving it on the favourite chair by the fireside. I’m sure she’ll be loving it out on the farm in a few weeks time!

I love the cold crisp mornings we are having at the moment. I took a few minutes to enjoy the crisp and blue skies here at Aston Eyre.

Pippy the dog is admiring the ‘new’ old gate that we’ve put on the original yard wall this week. So pleased we could save and reuse the old oak hanging post. I think I could even spot some of the bulbs I’ve planted starting to pop their heads up in the walled butterfly and bee garden. 🙌

We are looking forward to our first spring season in 2023. We can’t wait to welcome you to The Forge, (which sleeps two).

It’s such a beautiful, tranquil place to stay. With luxury bedding, bathrobes and slipper bath in the bedroom it’s a wonderful place to relax, whatever the season.

It was a pleasure this weekend to work with on images for our new website. So many to show you, but I’m trying to save most of them for our new website… astoneyre.co.uk which is coming very soon!

I thought I’d begin to show you the interior on The Forge. Here’s a little peak at the lovely kitchen. Painted in Old White and Cambrian Blue, Annie Sloan Wall Paint and paired with Olive and Chicago Grey. Simple ticking curtains and rustic style furniture give a country feel. I have loved finding, working and painting on every small detail!

Above it all, the chandelier catches the light helping to create a restful place to enjoy breakfast don’t you think?….

I loved choosing the interior colours and feel of The Forge. Being a holiday barn I wanted to create a light, easy to maintain living space. I was inspired by the open tread oak staircase that is a real statement in the lounge, and the open plan living space.

I drew out a few sketches using Annie Sloan Paint colours….(it had to be these lovely colours as I am a stockist!) 😂 I have always been a fan of floral fabrics and was drawn to this Sanderson pattern fabric. I paired it with a country style green ticking fabric and choose subtle neutral colours to work with throughout the whole of The Forge.

The overall feel could be described as Scandinavian meets Country Floral!

Once The Forge was water tight, the underfloor heating went in, followed by the electrics. Then we plastered and fitted the beautiful open tread oak staircase, bathroom and kitchen.

In the upstairs bedroom we love the grey blue bath. This sits at the foot of bed overlooking the kitchen through a glass screen! It’s really fun!

Hello! It’s been a while since I posted about the barns! Toooo long!!

We are so nearly there with completing the three barns inside and I really can’t wait to show you them. But, before I do I thought I would look back at each barn before, and during the build, to show how the barns have transformed.

We began work on the end barn shortly after the first Covid lockdown ended. We believe the barn would have once been the home for farm horses. There was a beautiful cobble floor throughout and a pretty little round windows. In recent years we had used the building as our garage! We decided to name this barn ‘The Forge’.

During the cold winter we dug out the floors, built a second floor bedroom and reroofed. We saved as many materials as we could and reused the old roof tiles.

Once the building was water tight we began work on finishing inside.

Welcome!

Thank you for joining our new page here us here on Facebook! I thought I’d introduce our beautiful barn to you.

The stunning barn dates back in parts to the 17th century and it stands proudly in the centre of our working farm, in rural Shropshire. We started work on the barn a few years ago to prevent the end from falling out! We always knew that this beautiful barn needed saving sympathetically and have done this by creating into a beautiful place to stay.

These photos show how the barn looked before the building work began. Ancient stone work one end, and a beautiful timber frame with brick infill the other. Over the years the farm has grown up around this central barn with new barns built right up to back. The barn suffered general neglect as farming practises changed over the years and the barn could no longer be used as farm machinery became too large to fit inside! However, bulls were housed in the brick end until about 30 years ago!

We have spent the last couple of years restoring and renovating this gorgeous structure ready for holiday lets in the heart stunning rural Shropshire.

We look forward to sharing more of our journey over the next few weeks and showing you the finished barns…..enjoy!
