2021 was a crazy year for our Alphonso Mango Preserve! Our jam production was outsourced at the time and Ross and I went to our co-manufacturer to help prep the mangoes for the mango jam production. We sold out within one HOUR 🤯

Our co-manufacturer didn’t want to make any more for us (it’s really hard work!) and our brand new jam factory wasn’t quite ready. It was so frustrating because the mango season was so close to the end and I really wanted to make more for all our customers.

We’d just employed Chris, our factory manager, and discovered the amazing nearby. So, on Chris’s very first day we arranged to meet at to prep a whole pallet of mango together ready to take back to the brand new jam factory to jam. I’m not sure Chris knew what he was getting himself into joining us but this was certainly a full on first day! We can’t have scared him off too much as he’s still with us four years later and we are so lucky to have him.

Oh, and our labelling machine didn’t get delivered for another 3 months so I hand labelled every single jar of mango jam myself that year as Ross and Chris didn’t seem to be very good at it (maybe they just labelled badly on purpose?!). And all this while I was 6 months pregnant!

Four years later and I feel very lucky to have an amazing team now in our very own jam factory producing even more Alphonso Mango Preserve for you all this year. And a big thank you to Chris for not running off scared when we surprised him with a LOT of mangoes on his first day! 🙏🥭🙏

We have a WINNER!!

This week we prepped 2,520 mangoes by hand. A lot of mangoes!! No-one guessed the exact number but the first closest guess was from Denise Horner. Congratulations! You’ve won a free jar of Alphonso Mango Preserve 🥭

8 days to go until we launch Alphonso Mango Preserve! 😋

But why do we even make this flavour jam? Let me take you back to my very first market, back in May 2016. This photo from the market is proof that we've had Alphonso Mango Preserve from the very beginning!

I was living in Tooting, South West London, an area that is full of Indian shops. And at this time of year they had boxes of mangoes piled up outside. Walking down the high street every day got me thinking... surely I could make jam out of mangoes?

Cooking the mangoes gently, with a small amount of sugar created the most intensely aromatic and flavoursome jam. It was so good! And it was the first jam that I sold out of that day.

Over the next few weeks I tried different varieties of mango but the Alphonso stood out by far as the best. And so, every year when mango season comes around we make as much as we possibly can for you all to enjoy.

It’s mango time!! 10 days until launch day ⏰

This year is going to be our biggest year yet for our Alphonso Mango Preserve. The Alphonso season started a couple of weeks ago and we’ve been busy prepping as many mangoes as we possibly can. We hand-make this preserve from fresh Alphonso mangoes, it’s the only way to make it taste as good as it does.

So, with 10 days to go until launch I thought we could play a game: Guess how many mangoes we are prepping this week? Clue: it’s more than what’s on this pallet!

It's been awarded the top accolade of Double Gold in the World Marmalade Awards- putting it top of thousands of entries!

This marmalade takes some serious hard work, taking fresh Amalfi lemons and turning them into to marmalade, just like you would if you were making it at home. Our team do an amazing job making this marmalade, so a huge thank you goes to them ❤️🙏

Our story

Hi! I’m Nicola and I started Single Variety Co back in 2016 determined to make the very best tasting fruit preserves and chilli jams that you can buy.

My mission is to make really delicious jams which you want to use in all sorts of ways!

It all began from my kitchen at home in London. Visiting nearby farms (not that nearby, it’s a good few hours to find a farm from London!) I tried lots of different varieties of fruit and back home experimented until I had developed the tastiest jams using the least sugar possible, each jam showcasing the true flavour of the fruit.

I also visited chilli farms and choose three very unique chillies to develop my three chilli jams- one mild, one hot and one super hot!
