As the weather was fine yesterday, we decided to drive to Sheringham for a long walk along the sea front.

It was lovely as it felt like we had the beach to ourselves.
We walked past the beach huts where I like spotting any quirky names they’ve been given.

We had a wander around the quaint high street and stopped off for a good home cooked lunch in Sheringham’s ‘famous pie & mash shop’ the Norfolk’s Pie Man cafe 🥧

Sheringham has a stream train which runs on the Poppy Line. You can enjoy this lovely form of transport to Holt and back 🚂

The train line wasn’t open on Monday, so we drove to Holt, as I wanted to do some Christmas shopping in Bakers and Larners of Holt

Bakers and Larners is an award winning department store and food hall, established in 1770 making it Norfolk’s oldest family run business. Apparently Prince William was buying chocolates in there the week before!

Holt is a gorgeous Georgian town which looked even more pretty with all the shops draped in Christmas lights 🎄

If you’d like to visit Holt when you stay at Willow Barn, this will take you 1 hour and 20 mins, add on an extra 15 mins if you also want to go to Sheringham.

Willow Barn is the perfect place to get cosy & relax this winter 😌

The king size bed has a winter duvet and bedding with which to snuggle into. There are dressing gowns and slippers provided too. You will also find blankets and cushions to chill out with on the large sofa whilst watching TV (choose from a range of DVDs too).

Or indulge with a face pack in the clawfoot bathtub 🛁

With plenty of games, magazines and books you can wile away the hours 📚

Yesterday we took a trip to Orford & Woodbridge.

Orford is a small fishing village and is one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk. It has a castle, pretty cottages, several pubs and is the home of Pinneys of Orford with its delicious smoked fish and Pump Street Bakery & Pump Street Chocolate shops.

The picturesque quay offers river cruises at certain times of the year and you can do some lovely walks from the village.

The remoteness of Orford Ness has made it prime location for various ballistic tests and even atomic weapons research in the 1930s. You can still see some of the military buildings today!

We then drove onto Woodbridge passing through Rendlesham Forest. Here you can walk the 3 mile circular UFO trail. In Dec 1980 there were several sightings of a UFO in the forest! 👽

We stopped off to watch a husky dog trail race, I’ve never seen so many huskies in one place before.

As we were driving along we were lucky enough to spot an ultra rare white deer! This looked really magical and it was amazing to see 🦌

We then popped into The Unruly Pig for a glass of delicious orange wine. The Unruly Pig has been awarded ‘best gastropub’ in the UK. If you’d like to go here for lunch or dinner make sure to book ahead.

Arriving at Woodbridge for a walk around the harbour and along the pretty high street.

If you fancy a visit to these places when you stay at Willow Barn it will take around an hours drive and makes for a great day out!

This October we have lived at Willow House for 2 years!
They have certainly flown by and we are really enjoying living in such beautiful surroundings and having so much space.

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful places to visit here in Suffolk and further afield in Norfolk & Cambridgeshire.

Here’s a roundup of this month -

* Exploring more of Norwich

* A lovely autumnal walk around Lynford Arboretum and enjoying a coffee and some cake from The Shepherds Hut

* Witnessing the spectacular Northern Lights again

* Enjoying an evening walk & drinks in Ipswich Marina

* Pumpkin picking at Rougham Estate and dressing Willow Barn for the season

* First time going to the botanical gardens in Cambridge and then enjoying a drink by the River Cam

* The changing colours of Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds

* A day out at Holkham Hall and a walk along the beach at Wells-next-the-Sea

* Pumpkin carving 🎃

* Lastly a photo of our cat as he’s just so adorable and is the colour of autumn 🍂

Roll on November where it will be beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! 🎄

Beach huts of Wells-next-the-Sea 🧡

Wells-next-the-Sea is a beautiful seaside town on the North Norfolk Coast. Set in north Norfolk's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Wells is part of the largest coastal nature reserve in England and Wales and is a magnet for bird watchers.

Yesterday we visited Holkham Estate in Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk.

We decided to hop aboard the tractor-trailer for a whistle-stop journey around Holkham deer park. Taking in the sight of the wonderfully vast Holkham Hall.

This magnificent eighteenth-century Palladian hall is home to the Earls of Leicester and the family takes great pride in sharing the house and its treasures with visitors! There is also an enchanting walled garden that dates back to the late 1700s.

If you’d like to visit here when you stay at Willow Barn it is a 1hr & 20min drive.

A sunny, autumn days walk around the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds 🍁

The Abbey Gardens are lovely to visit at anytime of the year but this is my favourite season as I love to see the leaves changing colour 🍂

You can drive to Bury from willow_barn_suffolk in under 15 mins or hop on our local village bus.

Yesterday we got the train from Bury St Edmunds station to Cambridge. We’ve been to Cambridge many times but have never visited the Botanic Garden.

It was a perfect day to visit as we were lucky to have such a warm & sunny day in October. Going this time of year was stunning to see the garden in its beautiful autumn colours 🍂

We enjoyed strolling around the different garden sections and going inside the glasshouse to see the tropical plants 🪴

Once we’d had lunch in the cafe we walked into the city centre to do some shopping, then headed to the River Cam to sit outside in the sunshine enjoying a drink in The Anchor whilst watching the punting 🍻

Before heading back to the train station we treated ourselves to a gelato from Jack's Gelato we had a ‘Girton apple’ sorbet and a ‘Bronte pistachio’ cone - delicious 🍦

Why not pay a visit to the Cambridge Botanic Gardens when you stay at Willow Barn? 💚

Yesterday we took our annual trip to Rougham Estate, Blackthorpe Barn pumpkin festival to pick pumpkins, squashes & gourds for our autumnal display at Willow Barn.

We loaded up the wheelbarrow with a lovely selection in all different shapes, sizes & colours. It’s such a beautiful field to walk around and in total they have over 20 different varieties - just waiting to be picked!

You also have a chance to take lots of photos 📷

There are plenty of food trucks to choose from and we had some delicious fish & chips from Pimp My Fish which we enjoyed whilst sat in the covered bar area listening to the music.

This festival is free to enter you just pay for the pumpkins you choose at the exit from the patch.

The last opening day is 31st October - so get picking 🎃

September roundup!

It’s been our best month at Willow Barn and we’ve been busy on a personal level too.

We took our younger daughter back to her uni in Sussex and enjoyed some time in Brighton. We also had a lovely break in Bristol exploring the city.

Here are some of my highlights:-

* A sunset stroll along the River Blyth
* Rowing with our friends in Thorpeness
* A walk amongst the ponies & heather at Knettishall Heath
* Having a romantic dinner at the Little French in Bristol
* Banksy art in Bristol (‘the girl with the pierced ear drum’)
* Eating wonderful seafood at Noah’s in Bristol
* Sunny morning at Wyken Vineyard Farmers Market
* Doughnuts!
* Brighton Pier
* Harvest moon
* Autumn walks
* Dressing Willow Barn for autumn
* Oktoberfest at Newmarket Racecourse
* The Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival and eating the best mac & cheese from the The Unruly Pig
* A breezy walk on Aldeburgh seafront

Now onto October where I shall look forward to pumpkin picking, Oktoberfest’s, Halloween, open fires & chestnuts and cooking soups & stews 🔥 🌰 🎃
