Our tour begins with a visit to Melton Mowbray’s 1,000-year-old market where we have opportunity to sample delicious local produce including the town’s renowned pork pie. We visit another market town in Stamford with its thriving high-street, charming side streets and architectural eye candy. Famed for its role in the English Civil War and boutique outlets, we spend time in Newark-on-Trent and later explore the affecting and atmospheric Workhouse and Infirmary in neighbouring Southwell. We enjoy an informative guided tour of Lincoln and have free time to wander the unusual Norman Castle (celebrated for its two mottes) and search for the Lincoln Imp inside of one of Europe’s finest Gothic buildings, the striking Lincoln Cathedral.

The Dambusters Raid was one of the most iconic air operations of the Second World War becoming a symbol of the heroism and abiding spirit of the British war effort. We visit the Dambusters memorial and are accommodated at their former home - the three-star Petwood Hotel. Further historic immersion is afforded by visits to Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, the Baroque-styled Belton House, and the majestic Lincoln Castle, which is home to one of the few surviving copies of the Magna Carta.
