The Melukat Ceremony Today we took part in the the ancient Balinese purifying ceremony. Melukat is a cleansing ritual of the mind, body, and spirit using water to cleanse the soul and is said to dismiss bad omens, prevent illness and bad luck. This ceremony has been passed down through generations among the Hindu community to the present day. Spiritual purification in this context means eliminating impurities and protecting a person from the forces of evil. The ritual begins at the neighbouring temple, where you are dressed in traditional attire and met by a Balinese priest who leads you through the experience. It’s the only Balinese sea temple that is also one of the nine directional temples. It is dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his manifestation as Rudra. The monkeys were out in force too. Melukat Ceremony - An ancient Balinese tradition - The Melukat ceremony is a ritual to cleanse the body – both spiritually and physically, from our present life as well as past lives, from the negative elements by washing the body in holy water. This purifying ceremony is said to dismiss bad omens to prevent illness and bad luck. The ritual begins at the Bvlgari temple, where you are dressed in traditional attire and met by a Balinese priest who leads you through the experience.
