Lovely site visit yesterday. Some great native woodland flowers, stunning magnolias and fruit trees about to burst into full flower. All planted 14-20 years ago. Goodness me! I’ve been doing this for a long time! 🌳🌼🌱

Week 6 - it’s been a busy shift. Jointing and pointing of tiles and setts. Shifting soil into the planting areas. Moving onto the driveway to install drainage and an additional retaining wall to the boundary. Love the photo sent to me of the first Sunday morning family breakfast on the terrace. Already a space and place to enjoy being outside.

These lovely little narcissi are enjoying the evening sun at the moment. It’s a great time to look at all of your bulbs and make a note of any gaps and plan some Autumn bulb planting.

Week five and the walls are finished, planting areas cleared out and the drainage and electrical cables have gone in. All water, comms, ground source heating, and electrical connections have been taken into the house. Step risers and the raised borders have been clad.
Looking forward to the finishing details and then the soil can go into the planters and it can all be cleaned and jointed.

Week three and it’s good to see the terraces, steps and raised borders taking shape. It rained overnight at the beginning of the week so it’s been impossible to keep boots clean but it will all clean up.

We started a new project last week. Just reviewing the work completed and thought it was worth outlining just how much goes into the groundwork before we get to any sort of landscaping operation.
A quick overview of Groundwork.
Site clearance of builders rubbish and left over materials from building work.
Removal of existing features,
Materials reclaimed for use in the new design.
Surface water drains connected from the barn conversion and original cottage.
New foul drains connected from the new barn conversion and cottage to a new package treatment plant. All manhole chambers installed.
Conduits installed for electric to garden and garage supply.
Water pipe installed for garden and garage supply.
Conduits installed for new comms services.
Area stripped back to sub-base in preparation for landscaping.
Photograph existing bulbs for planting records in order to preserve them.
Lift and place in containers any plants to be saved. 😅 Looking forward to this weeks progress.

Formative pruning on some fastigiate hornbeams this week. Just love this perfect little nest of sheep’s wool and moss that was intricately woven into the twigs last year.
