The Irish offshore patrol vessel, L E JAMES JOYCE, leaving Lough Swilly Co Donegal, passing by Dunree Fort. Dunree Fort is a 17th century fortification, built by the British to guard against the French invasion. The famous republican Wolfe Tone was captured on this Lough in 1798 on the french frigate La Hoch. After the partition of Ireland in 1922, Dunree Fort was held by the British until 1938, when it was handed back to the Irish Free State. There were only 12 people at the ceremony. The soldier who removed the British flag and the soldier who raised the Irish Tricolour were actually brother in laws. ☘️ 🇮🇪 Come tour with us. 🇮🇪 ☘️
