Last week we celebrated Race Equality Week and staff across Vigilant Security have shown their support by taking part in the annual UK wide movement, Race Equality Week “5-day Challenge”

Each challenge provided thought provoking questions and gave insightful actions that can be taken to help tackle race inequality.

This year’s theme, Every Action Counts, set clear aims for thousands of organisations to unite and continue the hard work to accelerate change in addressing race inequality in the workplace.

We are excited to share that, after a comprehensive tender process, we have secured a three-year contract to provide security services to The City of Edinburgh Council, with the possibility of extending for an additional two years. Our team is committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism, ensuring exceptional service for the residents and businesses of Edinburgh.

Vigilant Managing Director, Paul Williamson, commented, “We are pleased to announce, after a rigorous tender process that we have won the contract for the provision of security services at The City of Edinburgh Council. Winning the security contract is extremely exciting for us. It is one of the largest manned guarding contracts in Edinburgh and this dovetails into our existing business and places us as the largest provider of guarding services in the Edinburgh area. We look forward to mobilising over the next two months and working on various projects across the city.”

On Monday the 9th of November the Safe Haven App cemented its relationship with the Metropolitan Police by engaging in a number of out of hours and unannounced tests of the App in order to assess the readiness and response of the Security Staff.

This is incredibly important as we enter the festive period where there will be an increase in footfall in both the retail and night time economy spaces.

One of the officers Ruby Ley present said:

“Overall we were very impressed with the security officers we met and engaged with and received a warm and reassuring welcome. These joint testing exercises are important to understand the App and its capabilities and we look forward to helping again in the future”

November 25, 2024, marks White Ribbon Day. In recognition of this important occasion, we spoke with Chris Glen, one of our White Ribbon Ambassadors.

“It’s unfortunate that in 2024, we still need a day to raise awareness in the wider community about the need to reduce and eliminate the violence that women and girls continue to face in today’s world.

Recently, I had the chance to hear a PVAWG campaigner who said, ‘It’s not all men, but it must start with all men.’ This statement resonated with me, highlighting that while not all men are responsible for the violence against women and girls, all men must help change the narratives, mindsets, and educate the next generation of boys on the unacceptability of any form of violence towards women and girls.

Achieving this requires us to confront harmful behaviours, challenge unacceptable mindsets, and lead by example. I take pride in being part of an organisation that champions this cause and is willing to address such a sensitive issue head-on. As a White Ribbon Ambassador, I am committed to these discussions in both my personal and professional life, and I strive to be a source of support for those in need. I look forward to fostering this relationship in the future and contributing to the vital changes that will arise from it.”

White Ribbon is the UK’s foremost charity dedicated to engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls. Their mission is to prevent violence by tackling its root causes. As a White Ribbon-accredited company, we work with men and boys to transform long-standing, harmful attitudes, systems, and behaviours surrounding rigid gender norms and masculinity that contribute to inequality and violence.
