Every December, an army of professional pickers goes out across Sardinian to gather these little mirto berries to make into Sardinia’s signature liqueur. We're booking the last few places to join us on our pre-Christmas adventure, discovering the island's delicious secrets with a few festive surprises... We'll drink wine in an organic vineyard by an open fire, make our own pasta with a Sardinian pasta master, and mooch among the Christmas stalls in the oh-so-beautiful streets of Cagliari. If you want a magical end to the year, check out the full itinerary https://shorturl.at/1ABWe

What a whopper! Friends in England suspect we exaggerate when we describe super-size fruit and veg in Sardinia. We know size isn’t everything, but, here, you don’t sacrifice taste for it… This prodigious pomodoro weighed in at an impressive 850g! 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅

Come help us harvest some very special grapes in 2024! is an organic vineyard in the hills above Villasimius where Gianluca and his father Mario produce mainly Vermentino and Cannonau to make just a few thousand bottles of wine a year. This autumn, they have some vines with our name on for you to pick! You’ll spend a day like a local for ‘la vendemia’, enjoying a typical Sardinian dinner among the vines…and we’ll send you your very own wine as soon as it’s in the bottle 🍇🍷 Like to find out more about our next Tastes of Sardinia tour? What better way to celebrate in than with a big tray of home-made sweet pastries?! These were fresh from the oven at Annarita’s farm this morning. Our guests will be spending the day with Annarita learning about sweet-making, Sardinian-style, next month. Hope you enjoyed your Father’s Day, guys! ❤️

Our fave food book of the month is Bitter Honey: Recipes and Stories from the Island of Sardinia by Letitia Clark. It's a fabulous mix of farming, food and personal history, culture and cooking - all seen from the perspective of an English chef who lives near Oristano. (We'll get round to writing our own book one day 😉). Bitter Honey is a beautiful, finely observed, loving portrait of an island and its people, told around and through Letitia's own interpretation of traditional local recipes (well, no two are the same in Sardinia but they are all 'authentic' to the cook!). Well worth checking out. 'Bitter Honey' by the way is a real thing, made from the nectar of the wild strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo). The little red fruits themselves are deliciously sweet, abundant and, like much of the best produce in Sardinia, wild and free!

How beautiful are these?! Sweet-making raised to an art form by the talented hands of Sardinian ladies, keeping alive a truly beautiful food culture. The gold 'jewels' are inspired by Sardinian filigree, a traditional goldsmith technique. Underneath are almond-flavoured 'dolce' - a cross between a soft biscuit and a sweet. These pictures were shared with us by a wonderful grassroots organisation called the Associazione Culturale La Tartaruga ODV Villasimius in Candido's home town. Thank you Tartarugas! 🥰

When Candido was five years old, he was left with nuns at a convent in northern Italy while his parents returned to Sardinia to collect his older siblings from another convent where they’d been staying in Cagliari (we have a lot to thank nuns for in our family!). He couldn’t wait to be reunited with his older brother, Salvatore, and sister Annarita. But he was miserable at being left on his own… until one day a tall, athletic young man walked into the playground. Even the nuns (who led a sheltered life) recognised this handsome figure – at 27 and already a legend in Italy, Gigi Riva had been visiting his sister’s house next door to the convent and took pity on the little lad, so he stopped for a while to kick a football around with him. Candido has remembered that moment all his life and today, with the rest of Italy, he will mourn the greatest player the country has ever known. And one of the nicest of men. RIP Gigi.

*This amazing image of Gigi Riva was created by our much-missed front of house team member, Gabriele Soi, who now counts Serie A club Cagliari Calcio among his clients in Sardinia. Originally from mainland Italy, Gigi Riva joined the Cagliari team in 1963 and stayed with them for his entire professional career.
