Terry's Reading Walkabouts

Terry's Reading Walkabouts 22 Themed walks of My Home Town, I cover history, culture, events, people in a fun & entertaining way.

I ask for a £5-£10 donation for adults to Reading charities (that change each year), I'm non-profit making, so far I have raised over £23,000 in 8 years I set up Terry's Reading Walkabouts (guided walks) in 2016 with the aims/objectives:-

1 To get fitter in a proactive way,
2 To pass on my love of Local history, culture, famous people, Myths, battles, gardens, architecture, gardens, buildings, an

d more in a fun way
3 I have lived here all my life (my parents before me) & feel that many people now living or travelling to Reading (RDG) do not know about or fully appreciate it’s history, facilities and opportunities e.g. the beauty & accessibility of the Thames, King's & Hills Meadows.
4 I’m a people person & greatly enjoy meeting, helping people. I cannot think of a better way of doing, then hosting my Walkabouts.
5 To raise monies for many local charities

We were depleted in numbers, but not enthusiasm & fun for our Walkabout today!

And we were able to celebrate the Walkway from Ebb & Flow (Friar St) to the station being open. A great improvement in the area!

Yesterday afternoon (after 2 hours of strenuous garden digging) I delivered a short talk on Reading for one of my current charities - Reading & West Berkshire MND at there February meet up in Calcot. I so like to get involved with my charities and this was the 2nd opportunity.

Plus I was given the opportunity to Talk next week to Purley-on-Thames WI, as their planned speaker has had to drop out.

Shout out to my newest followers! Excited to have you onboard! Jennifer Clarke, Caroline Jones

One of my Walkers Shaun has for many years now, has been trying to find any images of the Green Monkey Road House / Restaurant, art deco built in 1936 which was located at Shepherds House Hill (A4 London Road) at Earley near Reading Berkshire.
This was an attractive building with a green pantiled roof, white walls and latterly sporting a large green monkey cartoon at the front.

Sadly it was bulldozed in the mid 1960s due to road widening. He is particularly interested in any 1950s Photos that seem almost impossible to find.

Shaun, is a ken painter & this building is special wrt his family & growing up, if you can help, please comment below or message me or email me.

Shaun, please add anymore details as you wish.

What a great sunny day to do the 1st brand new Kendrick CA Walkabout with Richard Bennett (the photographer).

So good to have several local people present with their experiences of living in the area.

Plus a bonus from Shaun, who spoke about the memories he had about his Grandparents house in Morgan Road!

11 of us went into MERl for Cuppa, great cakes & to chuckle at m old UoR RAG mags. Plus a wonderful donation of £160 to my charities.

If you are booked on the the two repeats coming up, you are in for a treat!

Thus us Great!

Yesterday morning I had the privilege to lead teachers & year 4 pupils from Redland school around their local area.

We got as far as Reading School & I squeezed in a few wow factors about RBH!

They were so well behaved, a testament to their parents & teachers & the helpers we had.

We had many road crossings & they were perfect.

They had invited me back from last year when I delived a talk on the ocal area.

She features in my book - Influential Women of Reading and in Part 2 of my Women of Reading Walkabout coming up on 20th February 2025!

Just to let anyone know who is coming on my - Special Terry’s Edible Reading Walkabout - tomorrow that is is going ahead.

There is a chance of rain especially towards the end of this Walkabout.

As it is town centre orientated, there are several places that I can stop & talk that are under cover like the Forbury Band Stand, Abbey Gateway, Corn Exchange (Market Place), Oracle etc. if necessary.

So see you all tomorrow who are coming, this is one of my favorite WBs.
