Happy Halloween everyone. Our super talented friends Angela and Bruce have decorated their house here in Gartocharn. Here’s a wee glimpse of their creativity.
The atmospheric rain was last Saturday eve but it’s warm and dry for the children going out guising tonight.

“At Home with the Mackens 2”
This year’s apple crop was hand picked (it’s a great work out 😉) and we have crushed and pressed these for apple juice ~ 70 litres of it! The apples seemed to have had a slow start this year but it’s all come good in the end!
Cider making is under way (sorry we can’t sell any, no licence!).
We truly feel like we’re embracing Autumn!
Have a good weekend.
“At home with the Mackens”
It’s harvest season here at East Cambusmoon and yesterday was all about honey. Here’s Steve in our kitchen ~ this little video is showing how the honey is spun from the frames. Inside this steel barrel are 4 frames we removed from the hives the night before. After they are spun (centrifugal force) the honey drizzles out and is currently in a separate holding bucket (to remove any bubbles) and left overnight before we decant it into jars ready for consumption (and sale).

Astounding meal this evening, truly divine food, presentation and service. #glasgow #greatbritishmenu
Sad news this Sunday morning. We realised the oystercatcher wasn’t around and that the egg was missing. Looking at camera footage of the back of our house you can see the cause of this. Early morning predator.
Lovely coffee at The Woodhouse Kippen this morning. I promise I did not have any cakeage today but thought you would like to see what’s on offer at this lovely cafe. If it’s not cake time this delightful place does great breakfasts and lunches and there’s a super shop next door selling gorgeous food and drink as well as gifts. Another one for your next visit!
Happy Easter
Hope you’re having a lovely day wherever you are.
Struggling to get up this Saturday?
This lamb was born yesterday evening and Mum went on to deliver two more strong healthy lambs. All on their feet within half an hour which is always a wonderful sight.
Using a heat gun to melt the wax on this frame from one of our bee hives makes it easier to release the honey in the spinner. A new trick learned!
The aroma in the kitchen is most beautiful.
