PKIMAGE MUSICFOOTNOTES 2007– 2014
I cover Celtic Connections Festival Glasgow (the biggest world folk festival), Edinburgh Fringe and

Edinburgh International Book festival (world’s biggest book festival). My ARTS & MUSIC BLOG/ I receive more than 5K hits world wide per month. I grew up in Edinburgh and I live north of Glasgow now (as well as ten years in America) and I am an older music fan - all of which I hope gives me unique perspectives! My journey as an artist through my musicnotes, poetrynotes, songbooks and photographic art. The noughties have been an incredible artistic journey. For the wonderful artists I've been inspired by- Dylan for his words and was himself inspired by Burns; Dalai Lama for his wisdoms; Mario Testino and Eve Arnold for their photographic art....I discovered Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Dylan, Radiohead, more. MY PHOTOGRAPHY is about creative & alternative style, natural light, composition and photo journalism. My focus is looking for good light and specifically on portraiture. I admire the photographers Mario Testino, Eve Arnold and David Bailey. I aim to mix the old with the new and capture moods such as quiet moments of inner reflection. I submit work to major websites and festivals, press, artists promotions, album art work, theatre and events. My work has included the Edinburgh Festival, Scottish Ballet, Celtic Connections, Manchester Jazz Festival (MJF) and concerts such as Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Jerry Douglas, Mumford and Snow Patrol. My images have been PUBLISHED in media that include – Daily Mail, Financial Times, The List, The Sun, BBC, News Group Newspapers Limited. I distribute for editorial purposes. Album artwork and PR. Photos of Emerging New Artists and several of those I've photographed are now signed to major labels – Hurts, Lau, Warpaint, Everything Everything, James Blake, Django Django, Admiral Fallow, Metronomy, Head and Heart, Broken Records, Miles Kane, Low Anthem, Haim. A live album shoot in Manchester for Kirsty McGee and Mat Martin.
* Photos and promotions for Scottish singer songwriter Emeli Sande since 2007. It has been a thrill to follow her successes in 2012 with her Our Version of Events! Photos at her Royal Albert hall concert. She won Ivor Norvello awards for her song 'Next To Me' and in May she was at the White House to perform with Carole King. Awesome really. She is such a genuine person. Photography is a truly ‘eye-opening’ and blessed experience: whether the blue-greys of a new day, the long glow of dusk, shared laughter, intense depth in a singer, or majestic mountains, and to capture those rare moments of quiet reflection and an inner sense if special connections. This being in touch is highly rewarding, makes you appreciate beauty and soul wherever you might find it. Music/ Portraits/ Events/ Weddings/

TESTIMONIALS: 'you use the light exceptionally well, full of life.’
'You have a wonderfully observing & imaginative eye.'
''you're really very talented & have a great eye - it's a rare skill!'
'they are fab as always, you're truly amazing at your art' 'and how you manage to capture a mood, which many never seem to capture somehow'
"Pauline's photos have proved invaluable to the project I hired her for - they are dynamic and very much in line with the brief we gave her. Her work was efficient, and she was very professional as well as very personable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to any musician wanting excellent quality and highly useable live shots." I hope sanity and common sense will prevail in America Tuesday!! VOTE CLINTON! As America's first female president!

I fervently hope that it will be Hillary Clinton who is sworn in as 45th President of the United States in January and who returns to the White House, this time not as First Lady but as America’s first female leader.

The song Freedom Come All Ye was a fitting choice at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony as the song speaks of winds of change and sweeping away exploitation and imperialism - and looks to an inclusive and co-operative future.

The song is a product of the 60s Scottish folk revival.

Dougie Mclean - new album. Wow, just heard Dougie's song 'Caledonia' with the Scottish National Orchestra on Radio Scotland today. My son chose this song for his first dance, by miles best version I have heard, the orchestra adding that extra depth and richness. Summer 2013 saw Dougie recording an album with the RSNO (Royal Scottish National Orchestra) which will be released on Linn Records in 2014…in time for a special performance with the orchestra in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in June 2014.

I liked this comment on the power of images, by a journalist too. 'Understanding images. A good picture will always beat words, however beautifully crafted. Deal with it. ' Oh yes.

Maya was best known for her book ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’, 1969, which brought her international acclaim. She died yesterday May 28 2014 and I was sad to hear of her loss. http://www.musicfootnotes.com/2014/05/maya-angelou-birds-that-fly-from-poverty.html
Her books centre on themes such as racism, identity, family, and travel. Angelou is best known for her autobiographies, but she was also an established poet. She inspired many.

She was a journalist, activist, novelist and poet as well as many other things. I was reading her Wiki page, goodness! She was also a dancer, actress, singer, composer, screen writer, professor, lecturer, traveller and more. Angelou (not her real name) was also a mentor to Oprah Winfrey. In 2011 she received the Presidential medal of honour.

Rab Noakes and Barbara Dickson Milngavie Folk club May 2014
To my delight Rab performed his well remembered ‘Branch’ which received good radio airplay and that he performed a few years, back now on the Old Grey Whistle Test. I’ve seen Rab live a few times now and this was the first time have heard the song live!

I was at a very wonderful gig Milngavie folk club with Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes. Their 'Reunited' Ep April 2014 has a raw acoustic live feel, and such good songs. Reminds me a bit of 'Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris' dueting together - http://rabnoakes.bandcamp.com/album/reunited-ep

**The Scottish Enlightenment ** I have been busy researching the 'Scottish Enlightenment' – and there is so much to be proud of with figures such as David Hume and Buchanan. I studied Higher History at school in Edinburgh, where we studied the Tudor and Stuart kings and 17th century European history - and yet I NEVER heard anything of the 'Scottish Enlightenment' until my son studied philosophy here! And of the connections between the Scottish Enlightenment and the American Declaration of Independence. Which seriously makes me question we do not learn of the great thinkers, creators or inventors?

Scottish Song......
For a new anthem for Scotland my votes on the tune Highland Cathedral with new words - 'The Highlands Call on eagles wings...' This tune is stirring and uplifting ....and nothing much beats the pipes, but adding the strings of the orchestra makes it easier to sing to.

I went in search of a good version on YouTube. Lloved this version with the orchestra adding that extra depth - oh wish they might play this at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 ( and not Flower of Scotland!) Check it here -
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1LAYRXDOVM&list=RDljnPX4okNMY&index=0

I agree with many that Flower of Scotland now sounds out-dated and even slightly bitter. We need a forward looking more positive and inspired song. This is not about sending the English homeward - its about an inclusive and confident way forward for all who wish to live in Scotland. When I lived aboard I did used to think of the pipes and the Highlands and those damp misty mornings.

Where the highlands call home for me on eagles’ wings/ And where heathers always bloom/ I will always be true/ To the highlands that are calling home for me.
