Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland's great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms.

The castle is open daily from 1st April - 31st October. Tearoom facilities inside and picnic benches outside.

A beautiful start to the week and the first snow we have seen this winter ❄️⛄

At this time of year it's not often there are no guests in front of the entrance fire.
We are still open every day until the end of the October.

We have now started our late season opening times.
For October we are now open daily from 10.30am until 4.30pm with last entry at 4.00pm.
The tearoom is open daily from 10.30am until 4.00pm.
Falconry shows are the same time as usual 11.30am and 2.30pm.
We are closed from the 1st November

On the 24th September there will be a planned power cut so we will need to close for visitors early. Last entry will be at 4.00pm.

Also on the 25th September there will be no falconry shows as Andy needs to be away for the day.

These videos don't really show how incredible the Sutherland School Pipe Band sounded playing inside the castle.

This is the first time all of the current Band members have played inside the castle and we hope they enjoyed the experience as much as we did.

It was a great finish to our day with a visit from members of the Sutherland School Pipe Band.
This visit was to recognise the new skins of the bass drum which Dunrobin were delighted to fund and we hope will be used for many years to come.
This year is the 40th anniversary of the Schools Pipe Band and they will be celebrating this with an event in Lairg on the 21st September.
Thank you for this visit and we look forward to seeing you play again next week.

Thank you for visiting and for showing what you can experience when travelling to Dunrobin by train. The Far North Line is a fantastic, scenic journey and having our own private station which is serviced by Scotrail is a real asset.

I finally managed to get a quick video of our resident red squirrels 😁 It looks like they are enjoying the weather and making the most of the castle grounds being quiet. Only 2 weeks before we open again on the 29th March so hopefully our visitors will be able to see them during a visit 🤞 Sorry about the quality of video.

The full winter team arrived back today to start the process of cleaning the castle in preparation for opening again on Easter Friday 29/03/2024. A frosty and gloomy start for the team.

Frequently ask questions

Planning a visit? Some general information to make it an easier and more enjoyable experience.

What’s included in your Ticket? Ticket gives you access to 18 rooms in the Castle, Formal Gardens, Falconry Displays and Museum. As well as Tearoom and Gift Shop.

What time are your Falconry Displays? 11.30am and 2.30pm everyday from the 1st of April until the end of September.

Can we buy tickets online? It is not possible to purchase tickets online.

Do you offer a garden only ticket? We only offer an inclusive ticket, we do not have a gardens only ticket.

What are your entry Prices? A full list of prices can be found on our Website - www.dunrobincastle.co.uk

Do you have disabled access?

Refer to disabled policy. Please note we don’t have wheelchairs available for use.

Family access - for baby’s?

Pushchairs can be used around the castle grounds but must be checked in at our cloakroom when visiting the castle. Front carriers are ideal for visiting the castle NO back cariers.

Baby changing facilities are available.

Do you have an area to leave luggage?

We do have a cloakroom. Backpacks, large bags and pushchairs are not permitted in the Castle rooms and must be checked in here. There is no limit on the size or weight of luggage brought into the Castle cloakroom. However please bear in mind there is a flight of stairs to negoitate once you arrive at the entrance to the Castle. There is no charge for using the cloakroom.

Do you do guided tours? No, we don’t do Guided Tours in the Castle. The Castle is Self Guided we have information boards throughout . Members of staff are also available to anwser any additional questions you have.

Do you accept the Historic Scotland Explorer Pass or National Trust Card?

No. Dunrobin Castle is still privately owned and is not a part of Historic Scotland or National Trust. We are a part of Historic Houses members access scheme and also the RHS garden access scheme.

Can you take Photos? Yes you can without flash. The use of Drones is NOT permitted.

Can we take our dog in the Garden? Dogs are not permitted in the Castle or Gardens, except for assistance dogs.

Can we look at Dunrobin Castle Archives? Dunrobin no longer has any Archives. These are now held at the National Records office in Edinburgh.

Do you have Accomodation? No there is no accomodation at the Castle.

Is Dunrobin available for Weddings/Functions? Dunrobin is not available for any private functions.

Can we visit during the winter months? From November to the end of March the Castle is CLOSED, but it is possible to visit the grounds during this time.

Does it cost anything to Park?

No, free parking available.

Castle Museum - WARNING - This Musuem contains a large collection of animal heads, which are hunting trophies dating from the early 1900’s. Some visitors have found these offensive.
