2 Guests used our pizza oven and commented we didn’t have a chopping board.
Well, we do now!! Courtesy of Dean Blackburn who made and engraved it, we now have our very own Little Oaks chopping board.
We think it compliments the hut nicely.

Well there we are! 50 5* reviews notched up since we opened Little Oaks in February. Oh and one guest who had finger trouble when making the selection😂
We are a guest favorite, a super host and top 1% of places to stay.

2 days - 2 change overs, 2 different excitements. Yesterday a private display by the red arrows! Today warmth and sunshine.
Looks like today’s guests are coming in summer!!
Busy week ahead as we are booked every night.

80 years ago today, this strip of concrete and control tower looked very different. A hive of activity as 200 Pathfinders of the 82nd and 101st American Airborne Divisions got the green light to board the newly painted and waiting C-47’s with their crews, ready to spearhead Operation Overlord.
D-Day for RAF North Witham was today, Monday 5th June 1944.
The 20 C-47’s from RAF North Witham were the first into the Normandy theatre, parachuting their Pathfinders into Normandy and onto the Cherbourg Peninsular at Midnight, to capture and secure strategic bridgeheads ahead of the troops landing later on the 6th, including into the infamous Sainte-Mere-Eglise.
At Little Oaks we are proud of our heritage, and so we stop to remember those brave men from our airfield, who started the liberation of Europe. Our usual Union flag has been replaced by a D-Day commemorative 80 year flag, as we say “thank you” to those men who gave us our freedom.

Our Guests are special and we love hosting them. But when Ellie left this picture in our Guest book with a lovely thank you, we had to do something with it.
So it is framed and in pride of place in Little Oaks for all our future Guests to enjoy.

Well, the expensive Bar-B-Que from a well known DIY store fell apart after 2 months of Guest use.
The answer - a home made half barrel one. There’s enough room for all your Bar-B-Queing needs, and strong enough to last the time. Just remember to clean it once you’re done 😂

Thank you Kaleb Cooper. for reminding me of an old saying - “Ash before Oak, we’re in for a soak: Oak before Ash, we’re in for a splash”
Look at this - The Oaks standing over our Shepherds Hut are in full leaf, the Ash has barely started to leaf.
On that basis we heading for a great summer, and they should know, they’ve been around for 300 years!!

Well the scores are in -
In April:
5 couples went to the Berkeley Arms, Wymondham, for dinner, and loved it, so they are Aprils winner.
2 couples walked to The White Lion Colsterworth for a meal and loved it as well, particularly the friendly staff.
1 couple walked to Blue Cow Inn - South Witham for a meal, and recommended it in our guest book, and one drove there - but to be fair, the kitchen was shut, so they had a drink and got fish and chips! 😂
1 couple went to A1 Truckstop Grantham Linconshire for breakfast!!!
We love supporting local businesses, and these places have benefited from Little Oaks, as well as Laundrylils and Ferneley's and others.
We have so much to offer in this part of the world - what a great place to holiday. (Oh and we love living here !!)

Well some body missed out!
Blue skies, warm breeze, spring flowers, lambs in the field, and for the first time in 4 weeks - no-one in Little Oaks. 😂 at least I got to cut the grass.

The highs and lows of AirBnB.
It made our day to have a lovely poem by Saffron, one of our guests this week. We do our best to make the Little Oaks experience relaxing and restful.
So imagine our surprise when her other half marked us down as a 4. Absolutely gutted to break our 5* run, and totally ruined the poem. Especially as the 4 was for our communication.
All our Guests get a welcome email on booking and an information email 4 days from their break, that even gives them a weather report, so they know what to pack. Guess who still hasn’t read our information email? 😂

The first of these little ones born today at Hillview. Our Little Oaks Guests will be able to enjoy seeing this year’s lambs as they come into the world. These little girls are particularly cute!

Every guest at Little Oaks has a complimentary bottle of milk for their Nespresso coffee or cereal in the morning. Our local dairy herd at Ferneley's provides the fresh milk for you to enjoy, with a total miles travelled of less than 10miles from cow to hut!!
But Ferneley’s is far more than just a dairy, it’s a great place to visit, have a meal, Ice-cream, play golf. Our guests have great comments about their visit.

After each guest the hot tub is emptied and scrubbed out, so that it is fresh and clean! Ready for clean water to fill it. Today, after its refill, it is sparkling in the sunshine.
Now to light the burner and get it warmed up from 6 degrees to 38 degrees. Takes about an hour, but no electricity is used - all renewable energy!!
Oh and given the 60 home grown beech saplings planted out this winter, we are also doing the renewing!

Having told our guests coming today it’s going to be unsettled but mainly dry - looks a bit black to me!!
Although the view from Little Oaks does have blue sky in it, unless you look out over the village where it’s a little …. Well … wet?? 😂😂
At least I was right - unsettled 💨 🌧️☀️😂

Blue sky, sun in the heavens, frost on the grass, sheep in the field and chickens pecking - 38.2 in the hot tub and 26 in the hut. Nespresso coffee and a bowl of cereal - who wouldn’t love to relax here.

Everyone likes snuggling down into a warm cosy bed, and we think the king size bed in Little Oaks is just the ticket!
Big shout out to Laundrylils of Grantham, who professionally wash and dry all our bedding, towels, robes and so on, after every visit. Just so that our guests can sleep in the knowledge that everything has been cleaned to the highest of standards especially for them.

Absolutely love these genuine vintage Tilley lamps that Chris Walton restored and converted to electricity and powder coated the lids to our preference red colour.
They just make the hut amazing and add to the romantic ambience.

Big day yesterday, the arrival of the hot tub.
Bit of effort from yours truly getting it down the fields, making sure it was level, and putting it together, but the end result is a perfect addition for our hut.

Our thanks to The Wood Boutique and especially Pete for these awesome, totally individual, hand made chairs, especially made for our Shepherds Hut. Light enough to move about, sturdy enough to give you a comfortable seat, these are a luxurious and unique addition that makes our hut special.

We like our coffee, so it stands to reason our Shepherds Hut has a Nespresso machine and milk frother! Coupled with an original painting of Ingleborough in the snow and a warming lamp- the coffee station makes getting up worthwhile!
