An interesting timepiece by George Philcox. He spent his career trying to improve the English lever escapement and took out innumerable patents. This is an example of one such patent C1850.
At first glance the escape wheel appears to have bent teeth, but, on closer inspection and after a clean the teeth are of a club design.
See a video on the next post.

CALLING TIME. IMPORTANT NOTICE.

After the Covid lockdown we opened our shop again last April. It has since been a struggle to maintain the shop and carry out restorations and repairs. It is with some regret that I have made the decision to close the shop premises in order to concentrate on those all important repairs, servicing and restorations.
My workshop remains operational although in another premises and I will still take in your cherished clockwork. My website remains as do my contact telephone numbers and email.
I have had a fabulous time in the shop and met many lovely people and I thank all my clients for their support over the years.

Pivoted detent escapement on an 1855 skeleton clock. My apologies for the local school playground noise and birds in the background.

A nice treat of a job. An unusual skeleton clock dated around 1855 and having a pivoted detent escapement. The clock was pretty gummed up with old and excessive oil, the escapement parts were very worn with some damage to the escape wheel teeth due to the worn detent locking pallet allowing the wheel to skip and run free.
Now thoroughly cleaned, pivots polished and re-assembled. The Teeth on the escape wheel recut, the detent pallet reworked and adjusted and the impulse pallet reworked, the clock is running well. (see the next post for a video of the escapement)
