A fine day in the Dales today. We've lost our gardener so my husband saved the day by mowing the lawns with a semi broken mower - not easy on the slopes without the driver mechanism. We still have the May Bank Holiday available to book - two nights minimum with a midday check-out on Sunday or Monday and generous discounts if you book 3 nights or more.

We have seen lots of evidence of hedgehogs at Countersett over the years but never actually spotted one until today. This young fellow sprinted up the lawn and then started snuffling around in the garden borders.

Countersett Hall Holiday Home

Countersett Hall is a family-run holiday let business. We have recently renovated this beautiful house which dates from the 12th century in parts, with modifications from the 17th and 18th centuries. The house has a magical atmosphere, and is most famous as being the birthplace of the Quaker faith in Wensleydale. Richard Robinson who lived at the house from the 1650s, (and whose initials are carved above the door), secretly preached the faith from the parlour (now dining room) and around the local villages. George Fox, the Quaker leader, stayed with Robinson and slept in what is now the quaint reading room on two different occasions during the 1650s. The house has four good sized bedrooms, two of which have king-size beds. The other bedroom is a twin with 2 full-size single beds and the fourth bedroom has a full size single bed. There is a family bathroom, a shower room and a downstairs cloakroom. The house welcomes friends, families and couples. We are pet and smoke free. Bikes can be stored in our padlocked stable. We are 5 miles from the lively market towns of Askrigg and Hawes, yet enjoy complete privacy and seculsion in this peaceful location, a few minutes’ walk from the stunning Lake Semerwater. We have free wifi, a smart tv, landline telephone, dishwasher, 2 fridges and a freezer, a utility room, a living room with log burner, dining room with log burner, kitchen-diner with oil fired Aga and electric double oven, a reading room with desk, chair and small sofa and large richly planted gardens with dining furniture and trampoline. There is access to Netflix and Amazon video accounts with lots of recent films and tv series available to watch, along with BBC i-player and other major apps on the tv. We have LPG run gas central heating, the house is professionally cleaned to a very high standard as is the linen. There is plenty of free parking. We pride ourselves on offering good-value, clean and well presented accommodation. More than anything, we want you to enjoy your stay at Countersett Hall. It is truly a place to ‘get away from it all’, surrounded by wildlife, nature and beautiful views and silent nights! Check our availability of Airbnb or Trip Advisor by searching for accommodation in Askrigg. By booking direct with us you will save on booking and guest fees. Email [email protected] and/or visit our website www.countersetthall.com

We also have a 1 bedroom cosy cottage located opposite the hall, Beebole Cottage, which sleeps two. The cottage has its own entrance and private garden. It can be booked alongside, or separately from, Countersett Hall. From £450 per week or £90 per night, minimum 3 night booking. Newly renovated, the cottage has a cosy sitting room/dining area with log burner, bluetooth speaker, flatscreen tv with Amazon Video account, pretty bedroom with kingsize bed and pocket sprung mattress, newly refitted kitchen with all mod cons including dishwasher and washing machine and newly fitted shower room. Wine, milk, cake/biscuits, complimentary basket of logs & kindling and Kinu toiletries pack included. Perfect for romantic get-aways or for grandparents or grown-up children who want to holiday with family groups but like to have their own space.

Please note: No pets, stag & hen groups or smoking, thank you.
