The lyrics, however, were not originally Welsh but were added later in the 19th century by Scottish musician Thomas Oliphant. The song has become a festive staple, embraced by people around the world during the holiday season.

The Welsh connection to "Deck the Halls" is in its melody, which is said to have originated from a traditional Welsh tune called "Nos Galan." This Welsh tune was first published in 1794, and it is often associated with New Year's celebrations. The melody caught the attention of musicians and composers, and it eventually found its way into the Christmas carol we know today.
