So this is the project we have been working on for the last two years! We have created four new self catering holiday apartments in a beautiful listed building, near the heart of Ludlow. And on the ground floor we have opened a cafe; Kin Kitchen, run by Janet and her family.

Both the cafe and the apartments benefit from a large mature garden, filled with beautiful plants.

We are so grateful to all of you who have stayed with us at Abbots Lodge over the years.

It's time for a change, and with so much to manage at Kin Ludlow and our Cruckbarn holiday let (www.cruckbarn.co.uk) we have decided to close Abbots Lodge B and B.

Maybe we'll see you at Kin!!

At just under an hours drive away, a trip to the Elan Valley near Rhayader is definitely worth it. The countryside is beautiful on the way there, and the dams themselves and their setting are stunning.

Any time of year, they never disappoint. There's lots of water about at the moment, which makes them extra dramatic!

Just back from providing dinner for a lovely family, staying . Three course menu including slow cooked Middle Eastern spiced lamb, and summer fruit pavlovas with fresh strawberry coulis, all elegantly served by my favourite daughter!

The light was so beautiful looking out off our verandah as we had our supper, we had to take a stroll to the castle to catch the last of it, casting long shadows on the valley. Just a few yards along the path, the sun on the cow-parsley was magical.

Looking up and out, the natural world carries on. Beautiful light, colours, forms and smells, living things oblivious to our worries and anxiety, but a tonic for them nonetheless.

We are keeping as positive as possible here in Wigmore, hoping to continue to welcome guests to our B and B who want to come away and enjoy our beautiful peaceful location, rural setting and pretty local towns and villages. After all Spring really is coming! We've had a few cancellations over the last few days, which for such a small business, has a big impact - especially coming on the back of the terrible flooding that seems to have gone on for weeks and weeks. The disruption to normal life we are all experiencing, reading about and watching unfold on our screens, is worrying. Please continue to support small businesses! For our part we can offer a spacious, relaxing place to stay, away from the crowds, with historical sites and countryside walks straight out of the door. Why not isolate yourselves here, have some r and r, with discreet and hygienic room service available!

We have been responsible for opening up the church in Wigmore throughout July. It sits on a rocky outcrop, up above the surrounding village houses, and just a few yards from us. The view as you step out from under the timber - framed porch looks over gardens, out towards the surrounding fields

And here is the new carved gate post, serving as the hanging post to our new oak gate. A long overdue little DIY project, using oak boards from trees thinned out of our wood surrounding (our self built oak-framed holiday-let). Thanks again to Alex Finch for the beautiful carving of the lettering.

Wigmore Castle in the morning sun, it's hot already! Sadly the steep steps up to the Keep are closed off at the moment, as they have become unstable and a bit dangerous. Still, there are plenty of other parts of the ruin that remain accessible, offering fantastic views out over the valley, and back down over the village of Wigmore. You can almost see Abbots Lodge!

Wigmore Castle has a commanding position looking out over the valley. The trees have been very successful occupiers in recent times! Over the hills in the distance is Ludlow. It's been an unexpectedly bright and beautiful evening here in North Herefordshire.

A pretty amateurish bit of filming and editing of a ride around the woods behind Wigmore Castle, Forestry Commission owned, with a mix of tracks and habitat types. Whether you are walking or cycling, from our B and B you just head up the castle path, straight out the door. Peaceful, invigorating and scenic in all weathers and seasons - but on a perfect May morning it's extra special.

Amazing skies up on Hergest Ridge today and views of four counties, worth the climb up the hill. Kington calls itself a "centre for walking" and hosts a walking festival, with routes like that on the doorstep you can see why. In the distance you can see the Malvern Hills, the Brecon Beacons, Clee Hill, The Long Mynd, and The Stiperstones, fantastic places to go walking all within less than an hour from us.

Cruckbarn

Sad to see it go

After a full day of snow yesterday, the sun came out this morning and created a magical world of beauty, an 'eye popping' scene as we made our way up to our Cruckbarn to help our weekend guests make their way out. Their car took a bit of persuading, with some assistance from our trusty 4 x 4, but I think I might have been tempted to make my excuses at work and stay another day! Look at that view!!

12/12/2017

Some magical scenes in the village over the weekend, the snow creates an 'old-fashioned' look and everybody gets together to marvel at and enjoy it.
