James Little Photography recently came with his drone to take some photos of the lodge - me and Andrew absolutely love them. James has captured the difficulty in building the lodge on a hill, but also how elegant it sits on the steel.

Huge thank you to Stepping Out with Bruno & the Camera for this great video showing the lodge and how the lodge is in a perfect location for your dog (like Bruno) to enjoy the river.

Allendale Tar Bar’l 2023. The barrels are filled with tar, sawdust, kindling and paraffin. They get set alight just outside the cottage and it’s an amazing spectacle! Also known as the Tar Barl, Bah’l, Bahl, and Baal (as each spelling is a contraction of ‘barrel’) the Tar Bar’l is one of the most spectacular examples of fire festival events still practised today. In order to be involved in the procession, each man must have been born in the Allen Valleys and many have inherited their status from previous generations. This sizzling, sparkling ceremony has been celebrated for at least the last 160 years of Northumberland’s history, though some believe it began in the Middle Ages. Then just before midnight all the barrels get thrown onto the bonfire to bring in the new year and to ward off evil spirts. The sounds of the running water and birdsong is just perfect! The glass and wood is just a great combination. Still aiming to be open summer 2023!
