In January I will be celebrating 20 years as a Travel Counsellor
I actually started working in the industry in 1985 - when I decided to hand my notice in and become a 'holiday rep' in those days it was 1 weeks notice so it was a pretty drastic move! Everyone thought I was mad - who would of thought would make a career out of it -
I 'repped' for 12 years the normal life span was about 2 years- and I worked mostly in Greek islands though I did get the opportunity to work in India, Seychelles & Kenya ( plus Cyprus, Portugal/canaries and north Africa in the winter months)
My travel Counsellors career started in a year beginning with 5 -2005 - I was at the time currently a High Street Manager - and made the move from employed to self employed! The majority of shops I managed no longer exist ...many thought I was crazy as the trend was 'booking online' at the time - but I guess there is a place for service and expertise
