Wales is believed to have more castles per square mile than any other country in the world.

Caerphilly Castle is the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in Europe.
Chepstow Castle is Britain's oldest surviving castle made of stone. Its construction began in 1067.

Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey is generally considered the finest example of a concentric castle in Europe. It has been a World Heritage site since 1986.

The ruined Flint Castle is the only British castle with two donjons. It is famous for having the thickest walls (7 m / 23 ft) of any other castle.

Powis Castle possesses Britain's oldest, and one of the last, true formal baroque gardens and is the most visited National Trust property in Wales.

The castles and town walls of Caernarfon and Conwy, and the castles of Harlech and Beaumaris were granted World Heritage Status in 1986. They were chosen as they were considered to be among the 'finest examples of late 13th-century and early 14th-century military architecture in Europe'.

Ruthin Castle was the first castle attacked by Owain Glyndwr during his uprising against the rule of Henty IV of England in 1400.

Turkey Day 7-9 we visit Asklepion, an ancient healing centre. It was built in Izmir's Bergama district in the 4th century BC and has been a treatment center for patients from various parts of the world for 900 years.

Next was Troy, one of the places I was most curious about. Great stories and insight shared by our guide at this site. I think it would be much less interesting if we didn't have his guidance and if we went there on our own.

The next day we saw the Hollywood Trojan horse, then took a ferry to visit the Anzac sites at Gallipoli. From there we went to Istanbul for our last night in Turkey.

Our guide was set to start another tour the next day following our itinerary in reverse. I wonder if this would be a better way to go as you'd end the tour with the best part - Cappadocia. It's worth noting that we were relatively lucky with the weather, it being the start of winter. The weather turned drastically from about the 17th/18th of November, so I'm not sure I'd want to go any later than this, unless ofcourse you want to see snow and all that.

Nice post by the Ancient Library this morning of Derinkuyu, the underground city we visited recently in Cappadocia, Turkey with Travel Talk Tours.

From this map it's clear why they closed off many of the tunnels for tourists so they don't get lost!

Turkey Tour Day 5-6: We were hoping to go for a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia first thing on day 5, so we were up at 5am. Unfortunately, there was too much fog and the rides were cancelled so we left for Pamukkale around 8am. Most of our group rebooked balloon rides or paragliding for the next day in Pamukkale.

The rest of day 5 was spent driving from Cappadocia to Pamukkale. On the way we stopped at a Caravansarai from 1229, which my Mom appreciated as she loved watching the Ertogrul series where she saw these roadside inns in full use.

The next day we visited Pamukkale and the ancient city of Ephesus!

Day 4: We visit the underground city of Derinkuyu. Super interesting experience and story. Used thousands of years ago by Christians for survival. Going all the way down is not recommend for people who have blood pressue or heart issues or who are afraid of tight / small spaces, which I thought a few times may apply to me, but I went all they way down and am glad I did. My Mom, wisely, turned back early.

We visited Goreme with it's fairy chimney rock formations, cave dwellings and churches. This place is like the Badlands of South Dakota and the cave dwellings of Mesa Verde combined, but on steroids! Impressively picturesque and otherworldly. We stopped at a few other places with epic view points on the way back to the hotel for great photo ops.

Day 3: 12-Hour bus journey to Cappadocia from Istanbul in a new Mercedes Travel Talk bus. The trip is broken up with regular stops at nice service stations, so it doesn't feel as long as it sounds.

We arrived at our hotel, had dinner and then went to a traditional turkish dance show, which we loved. We also danced and participated, even my pensioner Mom was on the dance floor at one point and the red wine was some of the best I've had. Great night.

Hafiz Mustafa's in Istanbul is the place to get the best Turkish delight and further down that street along the tram lines on your way to Hagia Sophia, is the Red River restaurant, where you can enjoy a good meal and a drink without being ripped off. These places were recommended by our guide, Mustafa 😄

Warning: In that same road, before you get to Red River restaurant, is Sultan Sofrasi restaurant. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Complete rip off, scammers and thieves who work there. We didn't read reviews of this place and just sat down without even thinking. They have a 1 star review on Google and it seems they get away with double charging unsuspecting tourists all the time.

Exploring closer to home today. A Neolithic burial site - The Devil's Den, an ancient ceremonial site created 2500bc - The Sanctuary and Avebury Stone Circle, built 2700bc. The Avebury stone circle is the largest stone circle in the world. Stonehenge, also nearby, is much much smaller and expensive to visit. Entrance to Avebury is free, parking is £9 and you can get a bite to eat from the cafe or The Red Lion pub - apparantly one of the most haunted pubs in England.

We had to skip the West Kennet Long Barrow as parking was full, but will stop there next time. These interesting heritage sites are only a 15 min drive from our home!

🍀Ireland - Our first roadtrip in the motorhome started off in Brittas Bay visiting family for a few days with beach fun and a night out at Arklow Bay hotel for me with Mom and sis - such a nice treat!

🍀Next stop was Cork to stay at the Blarney Castle Caravan and Camping park for 1 night, just a 5 minute drive from Blarney Castle. Started the next day of driving to Ring of Kerry by visiting the castle first thing in the morning. That worked well as we avoided the crowds that followed us and didn't have to queue much. Highley recommend visiting Blarney Castle. Loved the jungle and stone garden!

A good day of fun exploring Dublin with family with the Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing bus. Took our time on an enjoyable and interesting Guiness Storehouse tour. Crossed the Liffey river on the Ha'penny bridge to walk through Temple Bar area to the Museum of Rock, past the statue of Molly Malone and through Grafton street and back on the bus. Ended it with a scenic drive through the Wicklow Mountains.

Finally - a dream come true! Our own motorhome to go and explore whenever we can.

We've been to a few sites near home to get used to it and settle in. Our first trip is planned for August to Ireland to visit my sister and explore the Ring of Kerry. Can't wait!

She was called Ziva by the previous owners. Nice name, but we'd like to make it our own. Please help us pick a new name?

We've done it now. We bought our first very own motorhome! And we took her out close to home to a few family and dog friendly campsites and it's amazing. I...

Our 9pm flight from Madrid to Heathrow with British Airways last night was delayed for FIVE hours, then cancelled.

While we wait for yet another delayed flight this morning, we'll share memories from THE best wedding we've ever been to. We were honoured to be part of a very Spanish wedding celebration of friends in the picturesque medieval old town of Cáceres in central Spain.

I say wedding celebration because it wasn't just a wedding. It started the day before with an organised walking tour for guests through Cáceres old town, followed by a fabulous tapas and drinks reception dinner which lasted until 3am for us, longer for the bride and groom with friends.

Day of the wedding: sleep in, late lunch in the plaza, long siesta, catch a bus to Arguijuela Castle where the wedding promptly starts at 19h30 and ends at 07h00 am the next day! Never seen such a joyous energetic spontaneous celebration, so beautifully planned, efficiently executed, in an ultra stylish setting with a never-ending supply of food, drinks and surprises. We were part of it, staying right up to 7am to be rewarded with freshly made spanish churros and dipping chocolate for our indurance. What an unforgettable experience!

Thank you David and Laura for sharing this spectacular moment in your lives with us!
