👉 BOOK YOUR TOUR NOW !

First stop is the spectacular view point called 'Millionaires View'. From here you can see what typifies Scotland: Lochs, Glens and Mountains. Then onto the Falls of Shin, it is a fantastic place for a wee walk through the ancient forest to watch the Atlantic salmon leaping up the waterfall. Then on through Strath Fleet and onto the breathtaking Dunrobin Castle. The castle dramatically unveils itself to you at the end of a long, tree-lined drive. It dates back to 1275 by Robert, 6th Earl of Sutherland, but its present outward appearance results from extensive changes made from 1845 to 1850. The impressive house contains 189 rooms, with a rich collection of fine furniture, paintings, tapestries and objets d’art. The castle is magnificently set in a great park and you are free to walk in these beautiful gardens which overlook the sea.

From Dunrobin Castle we shall travel south towards Dornoch, famed for its red sandstone buildings, beach and golf course. From here we will travel towards the Glenmorangie Distillery, we pass over the Dornoch Firth, and the Distillery is situated on the outskirts of Tain, the 'Oldest Royal Burgh in Scotland'. If you do not wish to visit the distillery, then I can take you to explore the Old Burgh.

The thistle became the emblem of Scotland due to its history and symbolism. According to legend, in the 13th century, Danish invaders attempted to sneak up on sleeping Scots during a nighttime attack. One of the invaders stepped barefoot on a thistle and cried out in pain, alerting the Scots who successfully repelled the attack. In recognition of this event, the thistle was adopted as a symbol of Scotland, representing vigilance, national pride, and resistance.

Furthermore, the thistle is a hardy plant that thrives in the challenging landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, symbolizing the tenacity of the Scottish people in the face of adversity. This historical association has made the thistle a beloved emblem of Scotland.

Great news!

Inverness Castle will soon be open to the public for visiting. It is located on a hill overlooking the River Ness in Inverness. The red sandstone structure we see today was built in 1836 by the architect William Burn. The castle is constructed on the site of an 11th-century fortress. Currently, it serves as the seat of the Sheriff's Court and is not open for tours at the moment.

Have a lovely afternoon,

A Scottish story 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

During the Jacobite uprising of 1745, the Isle of Skye played a significant role. The Jacobite uprising was an attempt to restore the Stuart dynasty to the British throne, with Charles Edward Stuart, known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, as the leader.

After a series of initial victories, the Jacobite forces found themselves in trouble against the better-equipped and trained British troops. Bonnie Prince Charlie, pursued by government forces, sought refuge on the Isle of Skye in September 1746.

However, the Isle of Skye was controlled by the MacDonald clan, whose chief, Clanranald, had already pledged allegiance to the British. The MacDonalds were thus in a delicate position, torn between their duty to the British and their sympathy for the Jacobites.

Ultimately, Clanranald, the chief of the MacDonald clan, decided to support Bonnie Prince Charlie despite the risks. He offered refuge to the Jacobite prince in his house, Duntulm Castle, located on the north coast of the Isle of Skye.

However, their stay at Duntulm was short-lived. Government forces were closing in, and the MacDonalds feared being discovered. They discreetly evacuated the prince and hid him in a cave on the cliffs of the island, now known as the "Prince's Cave."

Bonnie Prince Charlie eventually managed to escape from the Isle of Skye, finding refuge in France. However, his time on the island and the loyalty of the MacDonald clan left an indelible mark in Skye's history and in the collective memory of Scotland.

Today, visitors to the Isle of Skye can explore the places associated with Bonnie Prince Charlie, such as Duntulm Castle and the "Prince's Cave." These historic sites remind us of Skye's importance during the Jacobite uprising and bear witness to the complexity of alliances and choices that the island's inhabitants faced during that turbulent time.
