Scotland has an abundance of castles and the region of Moray is perfect for castle hunters of all ages. The ruins of Balvenie Castle, one of the oldest castles in Scotland, sit on the outskirts of Dufftown, right next to the impressive Glenfiddich distillery. Built in the 12th century by the Black Comyns noble family, in 1308 Robert the Bruce laid siege to the castle after overthrowing the regions powerful lords in 1306. Sadly the site is still closed as the region recovers from Covid but check out https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/balvenie-castle/ for more pics and info on reopening.

Face a mighty, curtain-walled fortress, built in the 1200s as the seat of the powerful earls of Buchan.

In our opinion, every day should be and how can you argue with Robbie, one of the majestic fold at Pittyvaich Highlands? 😍

Highland Cows come in many shades, the most common of which is red – thought to have been selectively bred because Queen Victoria commented on her preference for that colour.

They have the longest hair of any breed, and their coats have 2 layers - the top is waterproof, and underneath is a downy coat to keep them warm so that they can survive the coldest of weather (which is just as well after the winter we've just had!).

Did you know that a group of highland cows are not called a herd like normal cows, but are called a fold. They are very caring and social animals, and the females in the fold will often help the mothers of the new calves in the field.

Check out Pittyvaich Highlands' page for more gorgeous pics!

Dufftown is an amazing place. Nestled in the rolling hills between the and the world-famous Spey, James Duff, 4th Earl of Fife, founded this former barrack town in 1817 where the Dullan Water meets the River Fiddich. Today we launch providing ideas, inspiration & information to help you plan your next trip, in partnership with . Look out for the marque which brings to life the unique geography of the area in the contour lines, acting as a fingerprint for the town.

Others who look at it, see patterns of wood grain on a whisky cask. Both are correct. Both are Dufftown.

We are delighted to offer the Dufftown brand, free of charge and under license to local businesses, events and organisations, symbolising and celebrating all that Dufftown has to offer travellers both near and far.
