The Patch, Snettisham Beach This page is about our holiday home, The Patch at Snettisham Beach on the wild west coast of Norfolk

HOLIDAY COTTAGE TO LET at Snettisham Beach near Kings Lynn, on the
NORTH NORFOLK COAST
Created around a Victorian railway carriage and recently enlarged and renovated to a high standard, the Patch is an informal, spacious, non-smoking holiday home on the edge of The Wash. It overlooks an artificial lake, and is a few minutes walk from a quiet beach. Well away from traffic and street lights, it’

s set in its own large private garden with off road parking for two or three cars. There’s a barbecue, garden furniture, and even several bikes. The Patch has four bedrooms - two downstairs in the carriage, as is the shower room/loo. It sleeps 7-8, with room for a travel cot or two – but is still cosy enough for just a couple or a small family. A great place for children, with plenty of space to run around and play. Available all year round, it has a big woodburner, and electric heaters in all other rooms. Bed linen and towels can be supplied on request for a small extra fee. There are many attractions and places of interest in the near vicinity, including the renowned RSPB Snettisham bird reserve, the Royal Family’s own holiday home at Sandringham, the Norfolk Lavender farm, atmospheric Castle Rising, historic Kings Lynn, and the cheerful Victorian holiday town of Hunstanton. The Patch is still available for Christmas and/or New Year! I shall be disappointed if I don't get the chance to put up the decorations - it'll be the first time for about 10 years that we haven't had a booking - come on, somebody!

The Patch on the Norfolk coast is once more available for a Christmas/New Year break following a cancellation. Far from noisy traffic and streetlights, it's a few minutes walk to a wild beach and the otherworldly landscapes of The Wash and its myriad and iconic seabirds. Our homely, quirky house with the wooden walls of a Victorian railway carriage at its heart, and the big woodburner glowing. Four bedrooms (two upstairs), big enclosed garden. Child and dog friendly.
Come at any time of the year!

I've just bought this lovely book from a display in Snettisham's beautiful parish church. I'm leaving it in The Patch as it's perfect reading for guests! It's by village resident Richard Gibbs (proceeds to local charities) and is subtitled 'An appreciation of some of the joys of North West Norfolk', and it's certainly that. A conversational amble around many favourite places in the area, with lots of suggestions for walks and cycle rides. I'm getting lots of ideas from it myself!

Sunset on Sunday - soon after 4pm on the first day after the clocks went back.... now autumn has truly arrived! I don't relish the dark evenings, but I welcome the lighter mornings.
This is the view over the lake from the upstairs bedroom - I never tire of it. Even better with the sounds of the birds settling down for the night. Maybe I'll post a little video next time.
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR DATES
ARE STILL AVAILABLE, BY THE WAY!

Oh, what a beautiful morning! The view from the upstairs single bedroom just now - early shadows on the hedge still - and for the first time this spring, we heard the cuckoo calling from Wild Ken Hill. The first of many such occasions, I hope!
Goslings and ducklings are starting to appear around the lake - perhaps at last spring has finally sprung!
We still have some early summer availability, and plenty in the autumn, if you want to look that far ahead!

Here's Tim, busy mowing the lawn at The Patch - it's a big job, because there's an awful lot of grass, but has to be done! Anyway, it's good to be outside, and the snell of freshly cut grass is wonderful!
We still have some availability in May and June, arguably the best time of year to come!

For several years, I've loved Elly Griffiths' novels set right here in North West Norfolk, centred on the doings of forensic archaeologist Dr Ruth Galloway - and have recently completed my set of all fifteen! And now I have this beautiful book of photos taken throughout the year of many places featured in the stories, described as 'A photographic journey through the land of Ruth Galloway'. She must have passed the turning for Snettisham Beach many times - Ruth (or Elly) is welcome to drop in for a cuppa at The Patch anytime!

I had a solo day out at Sandringham today, about four miles up the road.- we've owned The Patch for 20 years and never had a proper visit! I had a great day out, visiting the house, gardens and church.. Meandering about in the woodlands I found birch trees with curtains of fine twigs, almost touching the ground. I found some that had fallen, which I twisted into a garland - now on the kitchen wall. My daughter found that 'TIDENGS' panel on the shores of the Thames - we've never known just what it's supposed to mean, but it's a nicely cryptic addition to the kitchen wall.

Doing some ironing this morning in the twin bedroom of our carriage. Got a week's gap between guests just now, so Tim and I are enjoying a few days here ourselves. Sun and birdsong streaming in from the back garden, Radio 3 playing quietly on my phone - all's well with the world - well, my little corner of the world at least!
