With a dark sky forecast and the Milky Way's galactic core visible for about an hour, I headed down to one of my favourite spots on the South Devon coast—Ayrmer Cove. Knowing the tide was receding, I hoped my favourite rock (yes, I have a favourite rock) would be exposed, and I was thrilled to see it was. I made a beeline for it when I arrived and set up my shot.

Swoosh down the River Avon to Batham - £65pp

A 5.5km swim down some of the most scenic areas in Devon, with the outgoing tide. Here's some FAQ about the tours you can book at www.openwaterdevon.com

1 - We organise a shuttle for you, meeting at Aveton Gifford and dropping cars to the end, as a group. No need to worry about getting back to the start.

2 - The swim takes on average from 1.5hours to 2.5hours - although we stop and enjoy the area lots, you'll need to be confident in the water for this length of time.

3 - Our groups are mixed ability, if you're a faster swimmer we ask you to swim 'laps' or chill out and float while we regroup.
