A few of you will know our son Kevin and some of you will have stayed at The Smiddy over the years. 4 weeks today he takes on a challenge of a lifetime to raise as much money as he can for 2 charities close to us as a family. We would be grateful for all shares of this post and see if we can get him to his target and beyond. All donations goes to the 2 charities.
Good luck Kevin. Thank you. Lena.

🏔️ Kevin’s Kilimanjaro fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK and the RNLI 🛟

4 weeks today on the 3rd October 2024 I will be taking on a challenge of a life time, I will be setting off from Orkney and flying to Africa to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, all to raise as much money as I can for Prostate Cancer UK and the RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution

My Dad was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He is currently awaiting an operation and treatment in October and that’s why I've chosen Prostate Cancer UK as one of my charities.

I’m hoping to raise £1000 for Prostate Cancer UK, all the money raised will go directly to Prostate Cancer UK to help fund the research to stop prostate cancer killing men.

The RNLI has been a big part of my life and the Kirkwall Lifeboat is also in my family, my father has been on the crew for over 42 years, I have been part of the crew for over 16 years and my brother has been part of the Kirkwall crew for 11 years.

I’m also hoping to raise £1000 for the RNLI, again all the money raised will go directly to the RNLI and help save more lives at sea.

I would be very grateful of any donations to help hit my target and hopefully go beyond. I have paid for the challenge in full and 100% of your donations will go directly to the charities.

The Ring of Brodgar, a Neolithic stone circle and henge on the Mainland, Orkney.

It is generally thought to have been erected between 2500 BC and 2000 BC, and was, therefore, the last of the great Neolithic monuments built on the Ness.

The stone circle is 104 metres (341 ft) in diameter, and the third largest in the British Isles. The ring originally comprised up to 60 stones, of which only 27 remained standing at the end of the 20th century. The tallest stones stand at the south and west of the ring, including the "Comet Stone" to the south-east.
