This is the beautiful town of Matlock Bath looking perfect on a late summer morning. Matlock Bath is now often thought of as a seaside town in the centre of landlocked Derbyshire, with its parade of lively shops, cafés and amusement arcades, but it has been a popular visitor destination since Victorian times, when it was known as ‘Little Switzerland’ because of its tree-covered hills and deep valleys.

It’s that time of year again… get your ticket to the illuminations!

Beautiful Matlock Bath. With a sunny Saturday forecast for the opening of the 2022 Illuminations what better than to arrive early and spend the day in a village that has so much to offer?

Chippies and amusements galore, shops, pubs, restaurants, rowing boats and pedalos on the river and massive attractions like the Heights of Abraham with its famous cable cars and Gulliver's Kingdom. Absolutely brilliant 👌

While we all love the October fireworks nights we totally get why so many young families prefer our less busy September Illuminations. More room to move about Derwent Gardens and smaller queues for the children's funfair and food and drink stalls 🍺

Whichever option you prefer, take advantage of cheaper online tickets now at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/illuminations

And don't forget that accompanied under 16s go FREE!

A very apt well dressing!

What a beautifully poignant tribute to Her Majesty The Queen in the Peak District village of Hartington 👑🌸

As is the tradition in many local towns and villages, Hartington Well Dressings were intended to be a joyous celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee year. However, Thursday's news completely changed the emphasis of the message.

The Well Dressings - made entirely from natural materials such as seeds and petals - were revealed over the weekend and in many ways, the message has become even more appropriate as a heartfelt tribute to the Queen's lifetime of service.

Hartington Well Dressings will be on display until Saturday 17th September.

one of the most amazing moments i have experienced with a barn owl. She was flying around hunting for over 30 minutes near me and then came the most special moments of all as she flew directly at me from 50 metres away, but what was totally dumbfounding was she didnt stop coming towards me! She ended up flying above my head maybe 18 inches away and then turning and landing on the very next post to me. Things like this just dont happen in wildlife and it took me ages to calm down from a very privileged moment, amazing !
