We were very lucky with the weather for our first private Outlander tour of 2025. Starting off at Abercorn Churchyard, we stopped by to say Hello at Fiona's House then on to a very sunny, but still cold, Blackness Castle. On to Linlithgow Palace and then a warming bowl of soup in So Strawberry cafe set us up for our afternoon trips to Culross and Falkland.

Happy Burns Night. Tonight we will celebrate our national bard, Robert Burns with a meal of Haggis, neeps (turnip) and tatties (potatoes) as this is what was served at the very first Burns supper in 1801.
We love a tour around Burns country in Ayrshire and we have been fortunate to have had not one but two ancestry tours where we discovered a connection to Burns. They were both descended from the family of Jean Armour, Rabbie's wife.
One was her brother Adam Armour ( who had an added connection as he married Rabbie's cousin, F***y Burns). And we know that Adam was a small man as Rabbie wrote a poem about him- Adam Armour's prayer. It begins ""Gude pity me, because I'm little". The story behind the poem is a good one which we will share another day, but involves events taking place in Poosie Nancies tavern, which you can still visit today.
The other family are descended from Jean Armour's sister Mary. She didn't have any poems and we don't know much about her.

It gives us a real thrill when we can make an historic connection to a family, especially if it is a surprise.

JetBlue will add a second destination to its Edinburgh Airport options after confirming it will operate a summer service to Boston next summer.

The service will operate from Edinburgh from May 23 to 25 October, flying daily between Scotland’s capital and one of the USA’s most famous cities on an A321neo.

It comes as the airline also extends its Edinburgh to New York JFK service from May 9 to October 25 – this is following the success of the route that launched earlier this summer.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “This is a bit of an early Christmas present as JetBlue add a second destination from Edinburgh Airport, providing even more connections between Scotland and the USA.

“The success of JetBlue’s Edinburgh to New York JFK route has demonstrated to the airline the clear demand for transatlantic travel from Scotland’s busiest airport, and we are delighted to see them add Boston to their schedule as well as extend that hugely successful JFK service.

“And if anyone is looking for a last-minute Christmas gift, then these flights will go on sale immediately so give the gift of travel this year!”
