2023 is shaping up to be an excellent year for the Camarthenshire market town of Llandovery. With the annual Eisteddfod festival set to attract 90,000 visitors to the 2000-resident town in May and the popular, newly released Channel 4 drama 'The Light in the Hall' filmed in the area, we're excited to see what the next few months have in store.

Did you know? ... on this day remembering the creator of Rupert the Bear 🐻♥️💐

Alfred 'Fred' Bestall was born on 14th December 1892. He is remembered as the writer and illustrator of the Rupert Bear stories in the Daily Express, from 1935 to 1965.

Most of the landscapes that Bestall used in his illustrations were inspired by his childhood holidays in Snowdonia, an area he revisited regularly as an adult, settling in a cottage on Mynydd Sygun, in Beddgelert in 1956.

The countdown is on to our Winter Fair....
We are all set to host one of Wales’ biggest festive events on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th December 2022.

We are excited to reveal the amazing line up of performers who will entertain you each day.

🎼🎤On the Friday visitors will be entertained by local school children singing and playing their instruments. Ysgol Penygroes, Llandeilo CP School, Ysgol Cwrt Henri and Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, with Cor Serenata singing at lunchtime.

🎹🥁 On Saturday there is a selection of groups to entertain those attending, including: the Neath Port Talbot Cancer Challenge Singers; Carmarthen Ukuleles; Carmarthen Rusty Players Orchestra and the Gwaun Cae Gurwen Silver Band.

🎺🎸On the Sunday visitors will be entertained by the Wondering Minstrel; Myrddin Choir; Llangathen Choir, the Rock Choir and Cor Merched Tybie.

The fair opens at 10am and runs until 16:30pm each day.
Entry each day is £10, Aberglasney members and visitors under 16 get free entry.
On Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th we will be running a free park and ride service from the Gelli Aur College Farm.

Pre-booking tickets to attend is not possible.

Many trees are considered sacred in Celtic mythology, whether as symbols or due to their medicinal properties. Legends include Merlin’s Oak in Carmarthen, with the wizard supposedly declaring the town would drown if the oak was ever removed and the story of Gwydion and Math who use the flower of oak with broom to fashion the beautiful Blodeuwedd.

Dancers from all over Wales are heading to the National Botanic Garden on Saturday, July 2 for a Day of Dance.

Groups from Newport, Gwent, to Aberystwyth will be strutting their stuff all day in a traditional Welsh dance style at a variety of venues around the Botanic Garden.
Organiser, Bobbie Evans said: “It is always a lovely, colourful day and it will be fantastic to dance in the Garden again after such a long, enforced break.”

She added: “It is always such a great sight to see visitors joining in with the easier circle dancing – they are always more than welcome to do so.”

The day begins with a parade of dancers from the Garden entrance at 10.30am. They then walk along the Broadwalk towards Millennium Square where they all take part in a dance of welcome.

Something for the Art Lovers this week ..

We're delighted to announce that Robert Gladden will be exhibiting in the Mansion House from tomorrow, Friday, 10th June, through to Thursday, 16th June.
Robert is a largely self-taught artist, working mainly in mixed media using combination of watercolour, pen and ink, oil pastel and collage.
With a background in architecture (he was part of the team tasked with the completion of Bury St Edmunds cathedral, the last Gothic Revival building in Britain), it is not at all surprising that buildings are a recurrent theme in his work.
Be sure to visit his exhibition.

Summer special is a family affair.

There’s a family theme to this year’s Midsummer Concert at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

In the stunning surrounds of Lord Foster’s awesome Great Glasshouse – the world’s largest single-span glasshouse – the 55-piece Symphonica Tywi will strike up at 7.30pm and play until dusk. Saturday, June 18.

The event is a highlight of the season and promises, once again, a feast of popular classical music including a host of family favourites such as Tubby the Tuba, Thunderbirds are Go!, Fantasia on Sea Songs and Jurassic Park.

Midsummer Concert tickets are £18 for adults (£15 for Garden Members) and £8 (£6) for under-16s.

Just breathtakingly beautiful, Magnolia in Bloom🌸🌳 at

Magnolia liliiflora blooms profusely in early spring with large pink to purple showy flowers, before the leaf buds open.

Be careful not to miss it when you visit the Gardens while it's still in bloom as it is tucked away from the main garden in the small woodland area.

It is a small tree native to southwest China. Variously known by many names, including Mulan magnolia, purple magnolia, red magnolia, lily magnolia, tulip magnolia and woody-orchid, it was first introduced to English-speaking countries from cultivated Japanese origins, and is thus also sometimes called Japanese magnolia, though it is not native to Japan!
