We stumbled into the world of castle ownership whilst on a road trip in 2014. It was January, it was cold, wet and windy, but we fell head over heels in love with Scotland. Back in Dubai, where we both lived and worked, we saw Kilmartin Castle advertised for sale online. One phone call to the estate agent led to another, and 11 months later we were standing in the Grand Hall, keys in hand, thinking “What have we done?” We are the fourth official owners of Kilmartin Castle since it was built in 1550 and this purchase has completely changed our lives. Our combined work history made us feel confident that we could eventually make the move from Travel Radio Show Presenter and Creative Director, to enthusiastic bed and breakfast hosts. In 2019 we spent 7 months living in a campervan and working alongside a skilled team of architects and builders to completely restore Kilmartin Castle. As much, if not more time was put into the research part of this project. Adding modern pieces that would not look out of place in a 16th Century castle now, but that would also stand the test of time design wise, almost looking better with age, as the castle has. Now, we have five beautiful bedrooms, all en-suite, all with their original features and some new ones like log burners and copper bath tubs. We are excited to welcome you to Kilmartin Castle. We will see you for a dram in the Grand Hall, where we stood together 5 years ago wondering if we had made the right decision. We definitely did!
