Throwback to 2021. The morning mist lifts, unveiling the mesmerising panorama of the endless ocean and lush forest beyond Dune du Pilat. I will be forever grateful for having witnessed this natural marvel just in time.

📍In the summer of 2022, Dune du Pilat, Europe’s tallest sand dune, found itself in the midst of unrelenting wildfires.

The fires, exacerbated by the heatwave and fueled by winds, posed a significant threat to both the ecosystem and the residents surrounding the dune. At least five campsites have been destroyed by the flames, including the one I stayed at in 2021.

Fighting the flames reminded us how fragile our ecosystems are when faced with climate-related challenges.

In the face of adversity, Dune du Pilat stands as testament of our planet’s resilience and the collective responsibility we bear to ensure its future.
