MUSIC (GMM) is an organisation dedicated to delivering music education that inspires, develops and promotes the creativity of its participants. We work alongside and complement existing service provision found in the community such as schools, music services and independent music educators, but we have identified a key need to provide high quality and well-constructed education in the field of imp
rovisation and composition skills. These skills are important for two key reasons: 1) the ability to spontaneously improvise and to compose requires a thorough understanding of fundamental music theory and practice – which will in turn enrich the experience of playing music for participants; and 2) there is documented evidence that creative activity and education at a young age enables people to be more imaginative, resourceful and to have better problem solving skills in later life – traits which are fundamentally important to a progressive, intelligent society and which will come into greater demand as we move into an increasingly competitive future. GMM has extensive experience of working both within and outside the formal education sector, excellent links with the music and performing arts sector, a flexible low-cost business structure and a passion for helping the community. an Arts Council England funded project that saw young people from schools in east London perform alongside the breakthrough jazz-trio Phronesis to family, friends and key arts organisations from London – including Denis Baptiste from ACE. GMM also delivered a range of workshops for Trinity Laban as part of Greenwich Jazz and the London Jazz Festival and a Youth Music funded programme for Sound Connections amongst others.
