SFBUK Ltd Creating a future for professional athletes, developing their careers outside of sport, coordinating work placements & identifying commercial opportunities

SFB Sport For Business can help professional athletes to plan for the future, identifying their business potential and helping them to explore training and recruitment opportunities. The transition from playing sport to pursuing a business career can be very difficult, so we’re here to help advise, support and guide athletes through this process. We understand that professional sportsmen/women foc

us on being the best within their field and achieving the highest honours possible - they are focused in their pursuit of excellence and the here and now. We offer business mentoring for each athlete and help to create opportunities in the fields that interest them and help to identify their strengths and enhance their core skills. We advise on any relevant qualifications needed in their chosen career, and in conjunction with the companies who are offering work experience, help them achieving these. We also help athletes who have been forced to retire through injury and whose sports careers have suddenly ended or need to take a different approach. We can help them to plan for their future and guide them through their business career. We recognise the need to educate and encourage our young future professionals who are at Academy level, thereby helping to shape their future through sport and beyond into the world of business. With a wealth of experience both on and off the sports field, we specialise in offering work placements, mentoring and business opportunities in:

Financial Services
Commercial Insurance
Investment Banking
Corporate Sponsorship
Marketing & Advertising
Business Mentoring & Coaching

An interesting read which highlights that men can be treated better than women in cricket. And it's not just about pay!

Instead, it has put a value on its players and decided that men are worth more than women. It's not – just - the pay gap between men and women who work for Cricket Australia. Women all over Australia are well-used to the pay gap.

There are so many opportunities for professional sportspeople in business. The environment of the sports field has great similarities with the business environment.

Sportspeople can aspire to find a business environment that replicates the competitive, target-driven and leadership environment they are used to!

George Gregan, An outstanding scrum half and World Cup Winner in 1999, now the owner of a thriving hospitality and coffee business with 16 branches. His drive and will to succeed has seen his business earn annual revenues of £4.7 million and expand into new areas such as restaurants and more general hospitality.

A winner in sport and a winner in business!

One of the best acts of sportsmanship we will ever see on the cricket field came about on the 7th August 2005.

England had just dramatically taken the final wicket of Australian Michael Kasprowicz to win the test by just two runs and level the series. Pure ecstasy! But that didn't stop the classy Freddie Flintoff
from going over to console a heartbroken Brett Lee.

Sportspeople are renowned for their unrivalled determination and competitiveness. This however is to do them a slight disservice. Sportspeople often show great sportsmanship!

In 1936, Luz Long, a German sprinter and long jumper, gave advice to Jesse Owens on how to improve his long jump technique. Consequently, Luz finished second to Jesse, much to the irritation of a certain German dictator!

Sport is such a beautiful thing!

It's perhaps easy for us to take for granted the sacrifices our sportsmen and sportswomen make. When we see our cricketers on month long oversea tours, rugby players on Southern Hemisphere and athletes competing in games in faraway lands we expect greatness and are often delivered it! We should constantly renew our gratitude for our sportspeople who bring us such constant entertainment and inspiration despite great personal sacrifice! Team GB England Cricket England Rugby

As the end of another spectacular calendar year of sport ends, it is important to reflect on sport's unsung heroes. Maybe there's a particularly dedicated sports volunteer in your community you'd like to pay tribute to. That person could be a coach, avid supporter or part and parcel of the backroom staff of a team. It's easy to take for granted the impact unsung heroes have on a team or individual. After all they are unsung! But if you took that person away, oh my how you would start to appreciate their impact.

Don't wait to appreciate your team's unsung hero! Start now.

The have offered a feast of sporting indulgence. We've had Wales, Italy and England condemn South Africa to three painful defeats and a brilliant Irish outfit conquer the All Blacks in Chicago and the Wallabies at the Aviva stadium. The Scots have shown their muscle and growing presence in beating Argentina and narrowly losing out to Australia. France have played some brilliant rugby and just fallen short against their southern hemisphere counterparts. The big one is surely to come though this weekend when England take on Australia! If Andy Murray doesn't prove that hard work, grit, resilience, self-awareness and belief and sacrifices make a champion I don't know what can! His qualities and achievements surely make him the favourite for this year's sports personality of the year award. 9 titles, including another Wimbledon title and Gold medal at the Olympics as well as his maiden victories at the season ending tournaments in Paris and London.......not to mention 5 consecutive titles in 7 weeks in four countries across two continents and a staggering year win/loss of 78-9. Spectacular!

Who is Ade Adepitan? Ade is a former Paralympic Basketball Player turned Actor and Television Presenter. He grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and contracted Polio just 15 months after birth. He dreamt from a young age of playing football for England and this passion for sport saw him represent GB in the Paralympics. Ade is a tremendous example of a person who refuses to be limited by his disability.

A winner in sport, business and life, Ade is someone for us all to look up to!

“As a professional sports man its hard to imagine you will ever be doing anything else but playing the sport you love for a living. The realisation that you will have to go out and find a new career in your late 20’s early 30’s is a very daunting one.

Mental health is fast becoming one of the most serious issues in our globalised society.

But what if I told you that 32% of sportsmen say they do not feel in control of their lives two years after quitting sport and 16% admit to suffering from depression! Awareness for this issue is oh so important!

Sports stars are no more vulnerable to mental health issues than the rest of us; they just need to admit to them
