People often ask me when the best time is to plan and book a holiday? The answer is as early as possible!

To get the best choice and prices on:

you are best to plan and book well in advance. Long gone are the days when there are last-minute deals or flight prices. For those of my generation 🤫, that can still come as a bit of a surprise! But if you have travelled recently, and whether it’s due to a Covid rebound or just more people travelling more often, the norm now is for destinations, airports and trains to be busy.

Of course, there is always last-minute availability, but you will be limited on room choices and flights are likely to cost more.

I’ve just returned from an incredible 4 day Fam (short for familiarisation) Trip to Mykonos, with Mr & Mrs Smith

I was lucky enough to visit 12 luxury boutique hotels, enjoy superlative Greek hospitality with second-to-none cuisine, and taste every ‘signature cocktail’ going - it’s a tough job, I know!

While every hotel had its own distinct style, the differences often come down to the smallest details, as well as the people who take care of you.

For example:

👁️ Nomad Mykonos offers guests ‘tamata’ (small metal plaques which you personally engrave with a subject for prayer or a wish). These votives are then fixed to the wall of the entrance, shimmering and chiming in the Myconean sunshine as guests enter and leave the property. Like a spiritual portal to a wonderful stay 💙

Other thoughtful touches are hair straighteners in every room Bill & Coo Hotels Mykonos (don’t underestimate this, chaps!) as well as the best sunset; light weights in every wardrobe & a beautiful private Greek Orthodox chapel at Kalesma.

This incredible trip offers a once in a lifetime chance to experience the ultimate wildlife encounter, witnessing mountain gorilla in their natural habitat in Bwindi National Park, Uganda. The chance to come face to face with these majestic primates and observe them in their habitat while they eat, play and rest is a unique and unforgettable experience.

And there is more… You will get to spend a couple of days in Lake Mburo National Park, home to giraffe, zebra, impala and fantastic birding opportunities. This is the best place in Uganda to see leopard, especially during night game drives.

Another highlight is Volcano National Park in Rwanda where you will go in search of endangered golden monkeys. Golden monkeys live in troops of around 100, led by an alpha male. It is thought there are only around 4,000 golden monkey left in the wild.

The tour ends in the modern capital of Rwanda, Kigali. You will have a tour of the city, including a stop at Mt Kigali for scenic views across the city and Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, which opened in 2004 to mark the 10th commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi people.

This is a change that UK passport holders need to be aware of when planning a visit to 30 countries in the EU and Schengen Zone from early 2025.

Starting in the first half of 2025, passengers travelling from a number of countries, including the UK, will need an ETIAS travel authorisation to enter 30 EU countries.
