🎉 Celebrating Rural Women! 🌾
In honour of yesterday’s #InternationalDayofRuralWomen, we'd like to take a moment to pay tribute to these incredible women, who are at the heart of many of our projects across the globe – from the DRC, to Malawi, Timor-Leste, Solomon Islands and beyond.
Rural women are the unsung heroes of development, shaping communities worldwide. From the heartlands of Nepal to the fields of Liberia, we salute their resilience and unwavering spirit.
🌱 Did you know? Rural women make a significant impact:
➡️ Agricultural Workforce: Globally, they comprise 43% of the agricultural labour force, in sub-Saharan Africa it’s even more – up to 80%. They feed nations.
➡️ Food Production: In some countries, they produce up to 80% of our food. They nourish us.
➡️ Education: Empowered rural women prioritise education, shaping the next generation. They enlighten minds.
➡️ Healthcare: They are primary caregivers, nurturing their families and communities. They heal hearts and bodies.
➡️ Access to Resources: Improving their access to resources like land and technology boosts productivity. They innovate.
➡️ Empowerment: Economically empowered rural women invest in their families, leading to better community well-being. They inspire and protect.
➡️ Gender Equality: Empowering rural women is vital for sustainable development. They lead the way.
As we honour International Rural Women's Day, we pledge to continue to support them through our work.
Excitingly, we're currently conducting a GESI Mainstreaming Research Project (GESI-M) for the British Embassy in Kathmandu, where we are exploring global best practices in GESI mainstreaming, with findings from top organisations.
Our research goes beyond Kathmandu, reaching rural Nepal's heartlands in Karnali, Lumbini, and Madhesh provinces.
Stay tuned! We'll unveil the full findings in January, showcasing the impact of GESI mainstreaming on communities. Learn more about our GE

Earlier this year, we launched the ASI Thought Leaders Forum.
It is a platform with the goal to foster insightful dialogues, drive knowledge exchange and inspire innovative thinking among diverse professionals to address pressing global issues.
The Thought Leaders Forum is part of Adam Smith International's (ASI) wider Knowledge Exchange Series, which aims to foster intellectual exchange and collaboration within the development sector.
So far, we've hosted some incredible social and environmental scientists, like Dr. Saleemul Huq and Dr. Anuradha Joshi, created some exciting thought leadership pieces, and collaborated with talented The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) students to develop practical delivery recommendations for our live projects. These forums, which initially started as internal lunch and learn sessions, have evolved to include experts from a variety of fields and industries.
We look forward to encouraging insightful discussions and facilitate the exchange of ideas not only within our organisation but also with our broader community.
💡 Keep an eye out for our next edition which will be announced this week!

At ASI, we're proud to celebrate our staff's unwavering commitment to #sustainability.
♻️ From recycling old office machines in #London to meticulously sorting through tons of files, separating recyclable waste (mainly papers and plastics, weighing 35 kg) in #Delhi alone, we are thrilled that our office-based teams are actively driving our sustainability and plastic-free initiatives.
Since 2019, we have implemented a ban on single-use plastics in all ASI office locations where drinking water is safe. Additionally, we have taken steps to eliminate the use of single-use cups for hot beverages across our offices. Our dedicated teams in the UK, US, and Europe are tirelessly working towards the complete eradication of disposable coffee cups.
💡 In addition to this, we are working with fellow #BCorp, Inhabit, to develop ASI's Net Zero Action Plan and we are proud to share the numerous green projects that are producing positive results
From sustainable resource management in Mongolia to the "Farming for Prosperity" programme in Timor Leste, we are actively involved in a range of green projects. To learn more click here: ⬇️

International Day of Education
Happy #InternationalDayofEducation! 🏫📖🎓
For more than a decade, ASI has collaborated with governments and non-governmental organisations around the world on education programmes aimed at enhancing access to inclusive and high-quality education, as well as ensuring that young people have access to skills development and lifelong learning.
From supporting governments to improve public education systems in #Somalia; improving teaching and learning opportunities for more than 4 million children in #Pakistan; to increasing employment prospects for marginalised youth in Nigeria, we have been fortunate to work towards improving education outcomes in parts of the world where it is needed the most. Today, in celebration of the International Day of Education, we would like to draw attention to some of our programmes that have played a pivotal role in the advancement of peace and development through education.
It's also a great opportunity to say THANK YOU to all our amazing teams, their team leaders and the governments, students and teachers we have worked with across the globe for helping us achieve lasting impact!

International Day of Peace
📣Today is International Peace Day. 🕊
There are many war-torn countries where demobilising former fighters and reintegrating them into society is challenging, along with strengthening capacity for peace-building and stabilisation. Many of these countries could improve their governance and reduce conflict by strengthening their justice and security infrastructures.
We believe stability and growth in society depend on quality, accessibility, accountability, and responsiveness in justice, policing, and security.
Both our experience from security projects we have run in the past, as well as a growing body of research, also suggest that involving *WOMEN* meaningfully into peace-building processes will have a greater impact on long-term political stability.
Yesterday, we looked at some interesting facts and figures "Women in the Police" > https://lnkd.in/ezPu2t6D and "Women in the Military" > https://lnkd.in/eTbGGghC

Our commitment as a #bcorp is to keep on learning and working as part of a growing community to fulfil the vision of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. So, stay tuned for future updates about our journey.
If you've missed our B Corp updates during March, we've summarised some of the things we do as a B Corp in the below video – if you want to learn more, please head over to our latest Annual B Corp Impact Report here ➡️ ➡️ ➡️: https://bit.ly/3wSs9Qz

Come and step #BehindtheB!
As a B Corp, we know that it’s our people who make our business a success. They're the people that inspire us to continuously ask ourselves how we can become a better employer. It's also why we invest in the well-being, training, and development of our workers. But that’s not all – caring about people and workers also means listening to them and creating avenues of communication and feedback.
March is #bcorpmonth month and in honour of this, we asked some of our team what it means to them to be working for a B Corp.
You can hear their answers in the video below:

2/2 THE POWER OF WOMEN IN COCOA 🍫
Women play a critical and at times undervalued role in agricultural production. One such example can be seen in Liberia, where female cocoa farmers are crucial yet largely undervalued. Failing to adequately target them for training and trade, results in poorer quality and quantity of production.
Recruiting female farmers to train other women on good agricultural practices is one of the ways to include women in training initiatives, and ensure they are delivered in a format that suits their needs.
In Liberia, we conducted an impact assessment, which revealed that average yields per acre increased by 41% for the farming households that received this kind of training. You can learn more about the benefits of engaging female cocoa farmers in the video below.
Supporting these female farmers could also allow Liberia access premium markets, which our team discusses in detail in this article published in Next Billion: https://nextbillion.net/women-cocoa-female-farmers-liberia-access-premium-markets/
