Turkey is a dream for breakfast lovers. A traditional Turkish breakfast is an elaborate affair with a variety of dishes that’s normally squeezed onto a table for everyone to share and enjoy.

For Turkish families, breakfast is often a sit-down meal that involves spending quality time together, especially on a Sunday morning.

Many restaurants offer full breakfast menus including a ‘Koy Kahvalti’ (Village breakfast)

Prices are often very reasonable for the amount of food you get.

The typical Turkish breakfast will include many different types of bread, cheese, preserves, olives and other tasty morsels.

Bread is the main staple with options of normal ‘Firin Ekmek’ a baked loaf, ‘Simit’ a round bagel type break covered in sesame seeds or ‘Bazlama’ a round thick flat bread with a fluffy center.

Turkish breakfasts definitely aren’t an option for those on a diet!

The cheese options are made from goat, cow or sheep’s milk. A favorite is ‘Beyaz Peynir’ a white cheese comparable with feta cheese. Another to try is ‘Tulum Peynir’ which is very close in taste to a good English mature Cheddar.

Also included is of course green and black olives often drizzled with olive oil.

You will also see a bowl with ‘Kaymak’ a thick clotted cream with honey drizzled across the top. This is definitely worth a try. It’s delicious and extremely moreish!

Eggs also plays a big part in Turkish breakfast and are normally hard boiled, fried sunny side up or made into an omelette.

Sucuk can also be included. Sucuk is a spicy sausage with garlic and many spices like red pepper and cumin.

Alongside all of this, Yes, there’s more! you will be served lots of little bowls with various spreads, jams, dried fruit, walnuts, honey and butter.

Sometimes you will get the option of ‘boreks’ small pastries filled with cheese, potato, spinach or mincemeat. These are small rolls with filo pastry and stuffed with the filling.

Tea is always served with this feast of a breakfast, often coming in a large teapot for you all to share.

Turkish coffee is normally offered at the end of the breakfast if you can manage it.

Paragliding over Oludeniz really is an experience of a lifetime. The breathtaking views and stunning weather conditions, you can see why paragliding in Oludeniz is one of the best spots in the world.

The beautiful weather conditions mean it’s also ideal for tandem paragliding. Due to its popularity and set in the stunning location of Fethiye, Oludeniz attracts many of the world’s most experienced pilots.

The take off is from the famous Babadag Mountain and landing on the white sandy beach of Oludeniz is one of the most stunning sights you will see and experience.

Winds are light here and the beachfront is long so there’s no rapid decline. Due to these ideal conditions every landing is slow, calm and easy. But, that doesn’t mean the experience is without its excitement. Babadag Mountain is almost 2000 meters high (6500ft) so it takes approximately 30 minutes to paraglide all the way down to the bottom and in that time, if you are brave enough the pilots can take you on 360 degree turns!

The views from here are simply amazing, the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Blue Lagoon can be seen and views for miles of the Mediterranean are always visible due to very little cloud.

Revolut is one of the best ways to exchange your money to local currency whilst abroad.

HOW IT WORKS – You can pre- load your card from your normal bank account, free of charge and exchange to over 30 local currencies enabling you to spend your money in that country.

Not only do you get the benefit of a great exchange rate you also have the ease of all those currencies at your fingertips with out having to have lots of different currencies in your wallet.

You can also withdraw local currency from any ATM worldwide, please check any local charges that may apply and pay by your Revolut card in any shops that accept card payments.

Whilst in Turkey I have used this card since 2015 and depending on which package you choose to have with Revolut you can withdraw local currency free of charge at any Halk or Ziraat ATM machines, other may charge a small fee.

You will find there are plenty of ATMs dotted around in Fethiye, Hisaronu and Olu deniz .

Not only can you exchange currency you can also make bank transfers, have your wage paid into your Revolut account, split bills with friends and many more things.

There is so much more you can do with this card and I have found this has been the best way to manage my money in Turkey if you do not want to go down the road of opening a local bank account.

MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF OLU DENIZ🧿

THE SAD LOVE STORY

Most of the Turkish coast is surrounded by myth and legend, and Oludeniz is no exception. According to local legend, the main beach in Ölüdeniz came to be called Belcekiz due to a heartbreaking love story of a local girl and the son of a sailor.

The story suggests that many years ago, a father and son used to sail along the coast and regularly stop-off in Oludeniz bay. The father used to drop anchor in the deep exposed waters of the bay and send his son to shore to fetch fresh drinking water.

During one of his trips to land, the son spotted a beautiful girl on the beach, and her name was Belcekiz. The two fell in love and each time the boy came to the bay, he would see his love, and they would dream of someday spending the rest of their lives together. Belcekiz showed the son the lagoon and pointed out its hidden entrance behind the rugged cliffs of the headland. But the son never told his father of its existence or of his feelings for Belcekiz.

Sometime later, on one of their trips to Ölüdeniz, a freak storm swept over the bay putting their ship in jeopardy. As the winds howled and the swell picked up, the son told his father of the lagoon and tried to get him to steer the ship towards the entrance. The father, having never heard of the place before, chose not to believe his son and thought the cliffs were too treacherous and steering towards them would inevitably destroy their ship. A scuffle broke out, and the father accidentally pushed his son into the sea where waves took him under.

The father was devastated, and as he desperately scanned the sea for signs of his son, the wind pushed the ship towards the cliffside where he saw the entrance to the lagoon. Belcekiz saw what happened from the cliffs overlooking the shore and became so distraught that she flung herself over the edge. This sad tale led locals to nickname the lagoon the “dead sea”. It also led to the stretch of the main beach becoming know as Belcekiz. Some even believe the many shades of blue around the sandbank are the tears of Belcekiz lighting the way to the entrance, and guiding ships to the safety of its inner depths, whatever you belive, Belcekiz beach and the blue lagoon are most certainly worth a visit 🧿
