Children go to Westminster to talk food poverty

For a child's view on food scarcity, this is 7 minutes we should all be taking time to watch.

Just putting food on the table is a struggle - let alone making healthy choices. That's the message from a group of nine children, aged between ten and seventeen - who travelled to Westminster today to raise their experiences with MPs and peers as part of the Children's Future Food Inquiry.

WHY? 😟

During a meeting this morning with a local primary school, we were interrupted by a request for the teacher to attend a situation. On her return she shared her despair at having to talk to a 7 year old child who was caught stealing food from the packed lunches stored in the student lockers.

WHY? 😟

Because a child who wasn't given any food after school and and went to bed hungry will do what it takes - it's called survival.

WHY? 😟

Why do we do what we do at Hope + Story? Because we know that a little bit goes a long way and that when we come together we can make a monumental change. Today, please help us to grow in numbers here on Facebook - tell everyone you know about us , please ask them to follow us because in the next week we have some big announcements to make and we want to make YOU part of the mission to make sure that NO CHILD GOES HUNGRY or is forced to forage and steal food.

We're starting to organise our next CHILDRENS FOODBANK which will take place in Sale this October half term. We're looking for a couple of volunteers who could collect and deliver the emergency lunch bags mid morning during the week.

Good morning mums and dads of we're about to launch a food waste and share programme in schools. The aim is to reduce food waste and create an opportunity for us to provide emergency after school food parcels for vulnerable children who will not eat until the next school meal.

Would you be happy for your child to leave any uneaten/ unopened food and drink items from their packed lunches at school for us to offer ANY child to take at the end of the day?
