We forget that we have our own rainforest - the temperate forest not tropical rain forest.

St Martins Cross. Iona. Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This is the only one of lona's early high crosses still standing in its original location. It has been on this spot for more than 1,200 years.

The cross is covered in symbols and carvings from top to bottom…

Robert the Bruce’s pilgrimage

In the Spring of 1329, 695 years ago, Robert the Bruce ventured on his final pilgrimage to Whithorn Priory.

This Sunday, 14 April, 11-4pm, we're hosting an event with Dumfries Museum to commemorate his journey.

Join us for a day with Living History, artefacts to handle and a visit to the remains of the medieval church visited by Robert the Bruce in his final days.

Meet ‘Tom the Pilgrim’ and discover why people went on pilgrimage, what they took with them, stories from the journey, and what they brought back.

Stewarton in Ayrshire - the Bonnet Toun

Stewarton in east Ayrshire has been known in Scotland as The Bonnet Toun (town) for centuries. Records show that the bonnet trade existed by 1650, but it is likely that woollen bonnets were being knitted in and around the town well before that.
