Skylark hut sits in a wildflower meadow and adjacent to a no dig flower and veg garden, which is opening for the National Garden Scheme charity on the second May Bank Holiday.

The hut is still available atm for this weekend, and if you like gardens, maybe this weekend might be of particular interest?

If you want to get stuck in and help out as a volunteer over the open days, I could offer an extra night free! 😱🌺🌻🌼

Skylark’s wildflower meadow having a haircut on a bright frosty day! Took me 3 hours to scyth it and then another 9 to clear it 😳🤪

All the stems have been put on the dead hedge nest!

Sunrise over Llangattock Vibon Avel today… this little hamlet is centred around a grand mansion that was built as part of the Rolls Royce founder’s estate (the Rolls family). There is also a beautiful little church, and it is all surrounded by lovely countryside, yet only 4 miles from Monmouth.

Skylark Hut is just off to the left of the picture and is on top of the Ridge with amazing views (weather permitting!!).

We get lots of people stay from Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Bristol. All roughly an hour away or less. All seeking an easy to get to weekend escape!

Guests say there is so much to do round here, and they are not wrong!

The beautiful Wye Valley just south of Monmouth, with the remaining spans of Monmouth Viaduct in the centre and the Duke of Beaufort Bridge just below it. Both of these bridges used to carry train traffic across the River Wye, but have been closed since 1964.

Monmouthshire is full of these beautiful reminders of our industrial heritage, and the summer is the perfect time to get out and explore.

The meadow is about to burst into colour… just in time for our next guest! 😃

This time last year, it had only just been sown, and we were waiting eagerly for bare earth to turn green…

So it will be exciting to see what comes up this year. 🌱
