The village of Warkworth 🏰 situated on a loop of the River Coquet and guarded from its mighty castle looking on high over the village one of my favourite places in Northumberland.

You can really see how the castle looks over the village from this viewpoint, visable from most places around the streets and river reminding you of the vast history here. The castle was built in the mid 12th century and the village church has stood for over 1200 years it’s a remarkable place to visit.

With independent shops and businesses, pubs, art galleries, chocolatier and cafes as well as the castle, church and hermitage to look around it’s definitely worthy of a stop in your Northumberland itinerary.

Aren’t we lucky to be in Northumberland!

Well I’m still lost for words after what I witnessed last night. It was one of the most magical and unforgettable sights I think I’ve ever witnessed and I doubt I’ll ever see an aurora like that again in my lifetime. This one from The Bath House in Howick literally contains all the colours of the rainbow which rise right to the top of the sky.

There are hints of Easter all around the house! 🐇 🌸🐣

Seaton Delaval Hall and The Obelisk in the distance, marking where John Delaval died as a result of falling from his horse.
A brief history below.........

Seaton Delaval Hall is a Grade I listed country house located between Seaton Sluice and Seaton Delaval, it was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in 1718 for Admiral George Delaval; it is now owned by the National Trust.

Since completion of the house in 1728, it has had an unfortunate history. Neither architect nor patron lived to see its completion; it then passed through a succession of heirs, being lived in only intermittently. Most damaging of all, in 1822 the central block was gutted by fire, and has remained an empty shell ever since.

John Delaval, 3rd Baronet retained the services of the architect Sir John Vanbrugh and began an ambitious rebuilding of Seaton Delaval Hall. He did not live to see the new house completed; in 1723, at the age of 55, he died as a result of falling off his horse. The site of the accident was marked by the er****on of an obelisk, the base of which survives to the west of the hall, next to the turning to New Hartley.
