A short drive from The Little Barn, the best beaches on the Island IMHO.

A highlight of the island’s south-west coast, Compton and Brook Bays are a beautiful example of the Isle of Wight’s coastal landscapes, and a site that we’re proud to care for!
Facing the open English Channel to the south-west, Compton and Brook Bays feature a mix of open sandy shores and rocky ledges home to rockpools teeming with marine life, from shore crabs and blennies to cormorants and anemones. The Atlantic swells also make it one of the island’s premier surf spots, attracting surfers from far and wide.
The shoreline is backed by an extensive sequence of fossil-rich rocks from the Cretaceous period, including the world-famous Wessex Formation the source of the Isle of Wight’s dinosaur fossil fame! Many important dinosaur fossils have been recovered here, and at Hanover Point huge fossil tree trunks and natural sandstone casts of dinosaur tracks can be seen across the shore!
Above the shore rolling chalk downs and greensand hills descend to the cliff line, offering beautiful views over the Isle of Wight’s south-west coast and the English Channel. In spring and summer in-particular the coastal meadows along the cliffs can be home to a host of wildlife and plants from kestrels and butterflies to clumps of sea thrift!
Compton and Brook Bays are a deeply special place for islanders and visitors. To learn more about this fantastic site and plan your visit, please visit our website (link in bio).
