Yesterday morning I went on a guide tour of St Mary's graveyard in Newry. It was every thing I hoped it would be. I love graveyards as they are full of social history. Yesterday I enjoyed listening to the stories of the people who were layed to rest here, people who shaped the town of Newry and its citizens.
Next time the tour is on, I wod recommend you go.

Great day out helping John from Craicntours. John had a four day tour of the north. Colleen on the tour was keen to see where her grandfather was from. I was happy to assist in the searching her ancestry. To quote Coleen "I put the meat on the bones of her families history". Sharing the places in Newry where they lived and stories of their lives. Their part in the War of Independence, Newry trade and the down GAA

As requested- image of the townland Annacloughmullen. I love the name of this townland. If you live there use it when given you address. Before the introduction of postcodes and the troubles. A person's address was their name, townland, nearest post office and nearest town.
On Saturday we will be doing a walking tour of the Model village of Bessbrook. Starts at the mill on the Derrymore Riad at 11.30am. Tickets can be book on eventbrite

St. Briget's well, Hill of Faughart - The early Celtic Church was rather different from the modern day. It was much closer to Pagan, with a Christian leaning, this enabled it to adapt the existing sacred places to Christian purposes, a prime example being healing wells.

We have a few wee mottes in Ring of Gullion. Nothing compared to this bad boy though. If you're a fan of archaeology it's definitely worth taking a brief detour off the A1, to visit this, if you're travelling between Gullion and Belfast. When you're on top you can certainly see why they picked it as a defensive location.
Dromore motte and bailey is the best preserved and impressive example in Ulster of an Anglo-Norman fortification. It was built c. 1200 by Sir John de Courcy after the Norman Conquest. The mound rises 12.2 metres above its encircling ditch, blocking the landward approach from the north. To the south is the small squarish bailey above the river. An outer bank and ditch provide further protection to the east, north and north-west.
The height and well-defined slopes provide unsurpassed views of the town and upper Lagan Valley.
